Former Trade and Industries Minister and leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) personality, Alan Kyerematen will vie for the flagbearership position of the party when the time is due, Daily Guide has learnt.

Impeccable sources close to the politician have confirmed to Daily Guide that the man, who nearly became the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), is lacing his boots for the most sought after position in the largest opposition party in the country.

This has put paid to months of speculations and an assortment of manouvres such as the posting of posters at vantage points in some parts of the country that sparked questions about the appropriateness of the actions at the time.

Some of his supporters are already preparing the minds of party supporters, especially delegates for the final formal announcement which DAILY GUIDE can confirm would not be long in coming.

Popularly called ‘Alan Cash,’ Mr. Kyerematen is currently the African Union (AU) special envoy on trade and is the founder of the Young Executive Forum of the NPP, which has groomed a lot of people in leadership positions of the party.

With a career spanning over three decades in international public service, politics, corporate management, economics and law, his bid for the top job, Director-General of the WTO, had the blessing and support of President John Mahama earlier when the position became vacant.

His posters made a debut earlier in some parts of the country but were quickly disowned by him and some of his supporters when the action was described as premature.

Eventually it was put down as machinations of a rival political party to sow seeds of hubbubs in the NPP.

Now that the intention of Alan Kyerematen has been authenticated by his confidantes, perhaps replacing the poker-face situation, a major game changer has been thrown into the party’s arena for the party’s delegates in the now expanded Electoral College to brood over.

Just how Alan Kyeremanten will change the dynamics in the NPP is something observers both within and without the party await, given the Akufo/Bawumia chemistry and factor.

His success or otherwise will be a test of his tactics in the challenging and complex occupation of politics.

Nana Akufo-Addo currently holidaying in the UK as he seeks the face of God over his political future has left many in suspense over whether he would vie for the post.

The recent rebuttal of claims that Nana Addo would not contest the slot by Lawyer Gabby Otchere Darko is adequate evidence that the renowned politician/lawyer would take another dip and definitely with the man who partnered him in the last polls.

Internal elections in the NPP have always been contentious but the forthcoming ones will carry added heat given the entrenched positions of party supporters and delegates.

The recent near-acrimonious discussions over the modalities and timing for electing the flagbearer and the Electoral College are sufficient evidence of the importance of the subject in the NPP.
