Former Interior Minister W. K. Aboah has been appointed as the new national Security Adviser.

He takes over from retired Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, whose status came into question about a month ago, as to whether he was still the national security Adviser.

At the time, Information and Media Relations Minister, Mahama Ayariga could not confirm or deny if Nunoo-Mensah was still the national security adviser.

The issue came up following a tirade by Nunoo-Mensah against striking public officials.

Aboah, a retired Commissioner of Police, once headed the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

He has also served as the Director General of the Ghana Immigration Service.

A statement issued from the presidency said Aboah is taking over from Nunoo-Mensah.

The former security Adviser has been reassigned as the Head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Council Secretariat.
