President John Mahama has declared 2014 as the year that "many good things will happen" in Ghana and asked all Ghanaians to "claim it."

Delivering his New Year's message on Tuesday, the president admitted that 2013 had been a difficult year but said he was "proud to lead Ghana into an era of prosperity and development."

Agreeing with the Council of State that that Ghanaians are losing their sense of nationalism; president Mahama said he is ready to make Ghanaians proud again

According to him, his government is ready to work with the citizens and other marginalized groups in the country to ensure growth and development.

He charged all Ghanaians to "think and work for Ghana" and to create a better bond with each other.

The President also congratulated the Black Stars for the third successive qualification for the World Cup.

Despite being in a group some pundits have described as the Group of Death, the president said the Stars shall prevail.

"When the going gets tough, the tough gets going," he stated, adding the Stars will be able to surmount the hurdle and give a good account of themselves in Brazil next year.
