A Group calling itself “Campaign for Mahama 2016”, has lauded government for its resolve to bridge the nation’s technological gap through a vibrant Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) education.

It said the distribution of free laptop and desktop computers to schools, District ICT Centres, teachers and other institutions had enhanced computer literacy and socio-economic lives of the people in recent time.

Speaking at a meeting in Kumasi on Saturday, Togbe Mawufeame Fugah, a Patron, said ICT had become the catalyst for ensuring sustainable growth in most communities and urged the citizenry to show keen interest in pro-ICT programmes initiated by the government.

On the overall performance of the President Mahama-led Administration, the Group said much as Ghana’s economy had been generally affected by the global economic recession, government deserved commendation for staying focused.

“Although there is much to be done we think the programmes and policies currently lined-up by the present administration to address energy challenges, and also improve healthcare, education, youth employment, infrastructural and agricultural development, as well as security and sanitation will help alleviate the plight of the people in the long-term”, Togbe Fugah said.

“In President Mahama, we think the nation has gotten a leader whose resilience and commitment to the cause of national affairs, have the potential to transform the lives of the masses for the better” the Patron said.

He said considering the motivational leadership he had so far exhibited it would not be out of place if the President decided to seek the mandate of the people in the 2016 elections to enable him continue with the good works he had started.

Mr. George Richard Morti, Secretary of the Group, said plans were far advanced by his outfit to embark on community durbars to sensitise the people on their roles in nation building.

This would enable them to approach national issues with passion for progress, he added.

The meeting, which was aimed at taking stock of the Group’s activities, is also to strategise effective growth.
