Private Legal practitioner, Egbert Faibille has called on the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to set up a Supervisory Body to check the operations of its staff.

Lawyer Faibille argued that the lack of a supervisory authority at the Commission stimulates the misconducts of CHRAJ workers, particularly the Commissioner, Ms. Lauretta Lamptey.

According to him, though the Commission is independent, too much administrative power has been vested in the Commissioner.

Due to this, he or she may go scot free when he or she engages in any kind of malfeasance, he argued.

He said since the Commissioner is not supervised by any higher body, it gives her the free range to conduct herself in any manner.

Speaking on Peace FM's Morning Show "Kokrokoo", he however bemoaned the conduct of the CHRAJ Boss, Ms. Lauretta Lamptey who has been involved in financial misappropriation over the renovation of her place of residence.

He explained that the Commissioner acts in her capacity as an Appeal Court Judge but questioned if an Appeal Court Judge does not answer to any higher authority.

He emphasized that an Appeal Court Judge is accountable to the Chief Justice and as a result, faces sanction should he or she engage in any act of misconduct.

To Lawyer Egbert Faibille, the establishment of a supervisory body at CHRAJ will serve as a check on the Commissioner and any other member of the Commission.

Were holding on to the woman but beyond this woman, if theres no board; any commissioner of CHRAJ in future can do as they wishas far as Im concerned, theres the need for a supervisory authority at CHRAJ, Egbert stated.
