The Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has chastised government for failing to access the second compact of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) allocated for the energy sector.

Somewhere last year, the Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) signed the final document for the release of $497 million under the second compact of the MCA meant for the energy sector.

But the IMANI Boss wonders why government had not commenced the process of accessing the account.

Franklin Cudjoe however took to Facebook to question why government cannot solve the country’s erratic public supply with such amount.

“As you experience Dum Sor [erratic power supply], there is free money almost US$500M to be accessed by the government to begin serious private sector participation reforms in the electricity sector, yet we are still stalling,” he said.

Adding that, “We were to begin the process of drawing down funds in October 2014! The procurement processes take six to eight months to complete after the RFPs have been announced.

“…Meaning if we completed what we should have done in October in February, We will see MCA cash in December 2015 or in early 2016! We do not have time to waste!!”
