The first deputy general secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Koku Anyidoho, has come under serious attacks from the youth of the party in the Volta region for allegedly running down the government.

According to a group calling itself Volta Freedom Fighters (VFF), Anyidoho’s periodic outbursts are part of a grand scheme to destroy the NDC.

They described the outbursts as “inappropriate, atrocious, satanic and born out of divisive mindset aimed at wrecking the NDC party.”

The group made the allegations when they addressed a hurriedly organised press conference in Ho, the regional capital, on Thursday.

The convener of the group is Norbert Kporku, while the spokesperson who read the statement is Ayitey Sampson.

They said the onetime communications director at the presidency during the late President Mills’ tenure was on a “Revenge Time” agenda to ensure that the NDC administration, led by President Mahama, goes into opposition.

This, they claimed, could be seen in what they described as character assassination of the entire government, its appointees and party officials.

Some of the victims of these outbursts, they noted, are former President Rawlings, Omane Boama (Communications Minister), Sam Dzata George (presidential staffer), Kofi Adams (NDC national organiser), Mark Oliver Kevor (Eastern Regional NDC secretary) and Prosper Bani, the immediate past chief of staff.

They also claimed that Mr Anyidoho, who is known for being outspoken and sometimes making huge blunders – especially when he was communication director at the presidency - was using a local newspaper to vent his numerous “dubious” statements.

They stressed that no attempts by Mr Anyidoho or any other person in and out of the NDC party and government to make President Mahama’s government a one-term administration would materialise because members of the group would make sure of that.

VFF alleged that Koku’s track record during the late Atta Mills’ administration shows that he is not humble and a good role model for the party’s and Ghana’s youth. To this end, they called on some leading members of the NDC as well as chiefs – particularly Dan Abodakpi, Edward Doe Adjaho, Torgbui Sri III, Torgbui Binah, the national and Volta Regional NDC executives - “to zip the loose mouth of Koku Anyidoho and cure his verbal diarrhoea.”
