A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Halidu Haruna who described the female celebrities organizing the ‘dumsor’ vigil as prostitutes has been chased out of the ongoing ‘dumsor’ vigil.
According to Citi News Godwin Allotey, “the protesters hit him with sachet water and hooted at him upon his arrival” compelling security personnel at the vigil to whisk him away for his own safety.
Halidu subsequently apologized and retracted after a heavy public backlash on social media but it appears some Ghanaians are still bitter. Speaking to Citi News, a teary Alhaji Haruna earlier said he wishes he never uttered those words.
“I am dumbfounded as I speak to you now. I wish I could swallow back those words but unfortunately, those words are out there in the public domain. I want to once again retract and reemphasize the apology and say that I am sorry to those I many have disappointed by those words,” he said.
