Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akomea has called on government to stop local gun operators from manufacturing and selling guns to civilians in the country.

Making his submissions on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Nana Akomea appealed to government and security forces not to allow unlicensed gun vendors to continue their business.

According to him, the influx of local guns threaten the security of the nation.

Nana Akomea, who was commenting on the jail sentence of the man who took a locally manufactured gun to President Mahama's church, believed no licensed gun store would have sold such gun to him (the gunman).

But, in his view, the gunman may have got the gun from a local blacksmith and such practice when not stopped will ruin the peace of the nation.

“That gun store should be given license and the individual who wants to buy the gun unless you also go for a permit from the Police. And before the Police will give you the permit to buy the gun, the Police must take you through screening or vetting. They should evaluate your character and your background…in fact security checks.”

Touching on the sentence of the President's gunman named Charles Antwi, Nana Akomea called for him to undergo mental evaluation to ascertain the rationale for his action.
