NPP’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, has called on government to set up a comprehensive insurance cover for all members of the Presidential Press Corps.
He noted that journalists are not safe when traveling with the president – “Their lives are always endangered due to their constant traveling with the President at tough speed”.
His plea comes after the Presidential press corps vehicle they were returning in from a function in the Volta Region got involved in a fatal accident killing one at the spot – four others including Peace FM’s William Gentu are in critical condition.
Kwabena Agyapong described the incident as “unfortunate” and advised that some measures must be taken to prevent such from happening again.
“Immediately government must introduce a policy that will safeguard the lives of the Presidential Press Corps, since they render an invaluable service to the country,” he said on Kasapa FM.
