Former National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has waded into the debate to support Ghana’s electoral reforms and his party’s call for a new voters’ register.
The NPP over months has stressed that the ‘Elephant’ has uncovered various discrepancies such as double registration, registration of minors and the inclusion of foreigners from neighbouring countries into Ghana’s voters' register.
The party made public concrete evidence to buttress their claims – and noted that the evidence adduced by the NPP which has been provided to the Electoral Commission of Ghana is compelling and of monumental proportions.
Adding his voice to the call for new voters’ register for the first time – Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey told NEAT FM’s morning show host, Kwasi Aboagye that, there is a need for a new register that all must approve.
The former NPP chairman however stated that – “The demand for a new voters register should come from everybody in this country. It is not something that should be fought for by a political party or between political parties. It must be fought for by all Ghanaians because the democracy belong to us all.”
In an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show Ghana Montie, the NPP man counseled Ghanaians to have a “serious” demand for the new register so as to evade – “the situation where election results will be challenged violently.”
He maintained that Ghana’s voters' register is bloated and must be changed with immediate effect.
