Financial Analyst and social commentator, Sydney Casely-Hayford, says he would be elated if President John Mahama is voted out of government in 2016. According to him, he does not think President Mahama has anything to offer Ghanaians if he is reelected next year.

He buttressed his argument with the current economic and power challenges facing the nation which he said the government has been struggling to deal with. Speaking on Citi FM’s news analysis programme, The Big Issue on Saturday, Casely-Hayford said he would prefer to have the former Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan as the President, than to see John Mahama lead the nation for the next four years.

“If it comes to administration, technically speaking, developing this country further and going on, from what John Mahama has done in the last three years, I do not think that he is the right person to go forward for the next four years. In fact, I will be glad to see that John Mahama does not win because I don’t think this country will develop any better with John Mahama in place for another four years,” Casely-Hayford said.

“Don’t ask me who I think should come there, there is an opposition candidate and by saying that, I don’t want Mahama to win does not mean I endorse the opposition candidate. I have a person who I think will really be a better person to run this country if everything should be handed over and done properly. And I’m thinking that if a Kofi Annan should feel that he can become a candidate despite his age, I think this country will vote him in,” he added. Casely-Hayford is a member of the Occupy Ghana pressure group, which has had to repeatedly discard suggestions that it is a pro-opposition pressure group.
