Aspiring Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Gyamfi says the opposition NPP’s fundraising event over the weekend received low turnout in attendance.

According to him, the poor attendance of the event at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium speaks volume of the sinking popularity of the biggest opposition party in the region.

He added that the fundraising event has shown that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can no longer boast of its popularity in the Ashanti Region insofar as the attendance of the event is paramount.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, held its fund raising ceremony at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.

In attendance was the flagbearer of the party,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Acting National Chairman Mr.Freddie Blay,Acting General Secretary who doubles as the national organizer, John Boadu, 2016 Campaign manager Peter Mac Manu Minority leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu among others.

When asked if the NPP’s fundraising will go against the NDC, Brogya Gyamfi who is contesting Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu for the Suame Seat said on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show that the agenda of the NDC to claim 1 million votes from Ashanti Region is still intact.

He based his conviction on the happenings in the NPP in the Ashanti Region, saying is a major factor which is making the party losing its world bank in terms of votes; adding that “NPP’s popularity is down in this region”.

“People didn’t attend the fundraising event and this shows how unpopular the NPP has become in the region; the fundraising was a flop and the happening in the party is a major factor,” he asserted.

He again mentioned that the unprecedented projects in the Ashanti Region by President John Dramani Mahama has also made the opposition NPP unattractive in the region; making the opposition lose its support from the people in the region.

He however avowed that the flopped nature of the NPP’s fundraising in Kumasi goes to vindicate the party’s former MP, Hon. S.K Boafo when he was alleged to have said on a secret tape that the popularity of the party is going down.
