Voting has ended at Klottey Korle Constituency in Greater Accra Region as delegates from the New Patriotic Party attempt, for the second time, to elect a parliamentary aspirant for the 2016 elections.

Counting is underway.

Over 800 delegates were expected to elect either Lawyer Philip Addison or former constituency chairman Nii Noi Nortey who are battling to bear the flag of the constituency.

There were long queues forming in the morning as delegates anxiously voted for their preferred aspirant.

This is the second time the parliamentary election is being held. The first, which was won by Nii Noi Nortey, was not without controversy.

Philip Addison protested what he said was a deliberate ploy to remove the names of his supporters in the electoral album. He also accused the suspended General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong of changing the date of the election to favour his biggest contender Nii Noi Nortey.

He proceeded to court demanding the annulment of the results. The matter was resolved amicably with the two agreeing to another parliamentary election on February 27, 2016.

With just a day to the election, there were reports that some supporters of Nii Noi Nortey had defected into the camp of Addison.

Prince Kusi Yeboah, aide to Nii Noi confirmed the defection except to play down its impact. According to him a lot more delegates have defected to their camp as well.

Meanwhile the two candidates are in buoyant mood ahead of the election results.

Philip Addison reportedly said he is "satisfied" with the activities surrounding the elections.

Unlike the August 2, 2015 elections, Addison said all his supporters have found their names in the album and everything is proceeding smoothly.

His contender, Nii Noi Nortey also shared similar sentiments. "So far so good" he said, but said until votes are cast and results declared he would have to be vigilant.
