Abu Ramadan, former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has revealed that the error-ridden Ghana @59 independence anniversary brochure cost the State some GH¢450,000.

Abu Ramadan said he was reliably informed that the total number of the brochures which had grammatical errors and inaccurate facts was 3,000.

For instance, President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, who was the guest of honour, was misrepresented as the President of Ghana.

The former PNC National Youth Organiser could not understand why at a time the country’s economy is crawling, with its people suffering and toiling to enjoy nutritious two-square meals daily, it would blow such a quantum of state money on the error-filled brochures.

Speaking on Oman FM, Abu Ramadan regretted the level of scandal that has befallen this country under the eagle-watch of President John Dramani Mahama.

He expressed shock at how the talkative and defensive Communications Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, who has gained notoriety for quickly responding to critics of government, has suddenly gone silent over the issue.

Abu Ramadan lashed out: “Suddenly Dr. Omane Boamah has developed sore throat and cannot speak for us to know who is responsible for this shame that has befallen this country!”.

He was also not enthused about how President Uhuru Kenyatta and President of Guinea-Bissau, Jose Mario Vaz, were treated after the anniversary parade at the Black Star Square.

According to him, the two Heads of State were made to stand under the scorching Sunday sun for more than 15 minutes, before the vehicles designated to convey them arrived.

Abu Ramadan posed: “Mr. President – John Dramani Mahama – where in the world have you been ill-treated like this?”

On Sunday March 6 at the independence Square in the Nation’s Capital, high profile dignitaries converged to celebrate the 59th birthday of Ghana after independence from her colonial masters, Britain.

The celebration, which should have been a happy one, was messed up with over 3,000 copies of brochures which contained several unpardonable and disgracing errors. The anniversary brochures, not only contained spelling mistakes and typographical errors, they also boldly stated that the guest of honour for the anniversary, who is the President of Kenya, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, was the ‘President of Ghana.’

Additionally, the brochure had embarrassing wrong facts about Ghana’s economic status and location on the world map.

The embarrassment, which has gone viral – both locally and internationally – has caused a huge ridicule to the West African nation.
