The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Mr. Kwadwo Twum Boafo says anyone in doubt about what the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) brings to governance in his bid to be elected president of Ghana, should examine the present state of the party he leads.

He says Nana Addo’s leadership of the political tradition that long perfected the art of suicide bombing before even Osama bin Ladin thought of it, cannot bode any good for Ghana.

Twum Boafo, who was a panelist on Alhaji and Alhaji, the political talk programme on Radio Gold on Saturday, made the comments while contributing to a discussion of the arrest of three South African ex-policemen at Agona Duakwa in the Central Region for allegedly training NPP cadres in military tactics.

While mocking the NPP’s ‘thousand-and-one’ explanations for ‘importing mercenaries’ into the country, Twum Boafo said the presence of the three could not have been for any peaceful venture, and that the NPP which has claimed responsibility for the presence of the mercenaries was only staying true to character as a violent tradition.

“There are some people in this country who don’t know the Danquah-Busia Tradition, so when the flagbearer of the NPP runs around saying ‘sƆ me hwƐ’ (try me) because he has no message…., what they are trying to let you ‘sƆ hwƐ’ (try) is chaos, confusion, militaristic attitude towards everything, just like he’s done in his party even in opposition. And if you don’t know what Nana Addo and his gang of brigands and buccaneers will bring to government, look at what they’ve brought to their party in opposition – murders, unconstitutional internal coup d’etats of people they don’t like by going through kangaroo processes, and now they have closed the loop of what their forefathers used to do – they have brought mercenaries into this country to come and train people to wreak violence, end of story.”

Twum Boafo said one of the reasons the NPP has offered for the importation of the ‘mercenaries’ is that Nana Addo is very popular and so needs crowd control, however, he said of all the nations of the world, South Africa should be the last place the NPP should be looking for excellence in crowd control methods if indeed their intentions were noble.

“If you want to bring a police force to come and protect your leader, let me just say that the South African police force is the last police force, and let me repeat, the last police force in the world that you would take lessons from in crowd control. Because South African police have been trained to kill when it comes to crowd control. Go to the days of apartheid – what happened to the likes of Steve Biko? What happened to the protesters in Pietermaritzburg? Throughout the days of apartheid, what were the South African police doing? The South African police… just a few months ago, what happened to the miners who were protesting for a better pay, even without apartheid? And you are telling me you went to take former officers of the South African police force to come and teach you how to control crowds? Is that a joke? Is that a joke?

“You see, the NPP want to incubate lunacy in this country. They have had no problem over the years doing it because the people who should call them to order, do not call them to order, but I thank God that the security forces have decided that this time they will take no nonsense from Nana Addo and his gang of pirates,” he said.

Twum Boafo also questioned the silence of a section of the clergy over a serious matter as affects the security and peace of the country when they had been heard on a similar matter in the recent past, saying their silence only betrays them as persons with political interest.
