The Electoral Commission (EC) has categorically ruled out any possibility of extending the limited registration exercise for students as the ultimatum from university students for an extension ends today, Thursday May 12.
There have been calls by some notable groups and persons to the EC to reopen registration in the country’s tertiary institutions following its inability to register eligible students due to inadequate centres.
The Peace Council and CODEO have all sent out pleas to the EC to reconsider its position. But Head of Administration at the Electoral Commission Christian Owusu Parry, in an interview with Class News’ Parker Wilson, has said the EC will not extend the exercise.
“The commission’s position is that there will not be an extension of the limited voter registration exercise. If there are any individuals who qualify but have still not been able to register, they can take advantage of the continuous voters’ registration facility that the commission would embark on in the near future,” he stated.
