NPP's Deputy General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen has advised the general public, mainly politicians not desist from reading political meaning into the recent shakeup in the police hierarchy.

According to him, the reshuffle is “far” from political motives despite others thinking otherwise of the changes.

“Do we have to read politics into it? Why is it that in this country, even when you are going to buy foodstuffs from the market, people are reading politics into it? Is it the first time that the police administration as a body has embarked on such an exercise? No! And it will not be the last time,” he told Class FM in an interview.

The changes have been viewed by many as a surprise as the Commander of the Greater Accra regional Police COP George Akuffo Dampare who was appointed six months ago is headed to the Ghana Police Command and Staff College at Winneba. He hands over to ACP Timothy Donga Yoosa.

Central Regional Police Commander DCOP Yaagy Akuribah goes to the Western Region as the new Commander.

DCOP David Nenyi Ampah Bennin of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standard Bureau however swaps places with DCOP Osabarima Oware Asare Pinkro II who was Director General in charge of Special Duties.

The Volta regional commander DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae replaces the Eastern regional Police commander DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni who passed away on March 14, 2016.

These changes come less than seven months to the November 7, polls.

The IGP upon his appointed in November 9, 2015, has made 29 changes at the top hierarchy of the service.
