The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has rallied women groups to lead the campaign against reckless political conduct and intolerance.

Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Commission, Mr. Arthur Wilson, said they needed to play central role in efforts at preventing violence during and after this year’s general election.

He pointed out that it was in their own interest and that of children to make sure that the peace and stability of the nation was not threatened or disturbed.

He was speaking at a day’s workshop held at Jachie in the Bosomtwe District to discuss ways to avoid tension and keep the country calm as the political parties canvassed for votes.

The programme was organized by a local NGO, Millennium Child Support Group, with support from Star-Ghana, a multi-donor polled funding mechanism.

Mr. Wilson invited everybody to find space to contribute to the success of the polls to growth Ghana’s multi-party democracy.

He said it was important for the political parties and their supporters to be measured in their pronouncements and accept to accommodate opposing views.

Mr. Ato Parker, the leader of the NGO, urged politicians to put the nation ahead of individual ambition, convenience or comfort.

They should adhere to the political parties’ code of conduct to remove needless tension.
