Atik Mohammed says leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should tame their members and ensure they don't join in the politics of insults.

Contributing to Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed expressed disappointment in the Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong for vilifying the Electoral Commission Chairperson Mrs. Charlotte Osei.

Kennedy Agyapong alleged that Mrs. Charlotte Osei used her “derriere to win favours” from some bigwigs in government to become the EC Chair.

The PNC General Secretary, Atik Mohammed denounced Mr. Agyapong's comments stating that such comments are distasteful.

In order to end the politics of insults that have characterized Ghana's political climate, he called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to distance itself from the MP's comments.

He further wondered why some functionaries within the NPP are bent on making the flagbearer's attempt to win this year's polls a herculean one by throwing spokes in his wheels anytime the campaign reaches fever pitch.

According to him, it appears that some members of the party are always on standby to destroy Nana Addo's candidature.

“It’s time they did something very dramatic about the attitude of some members of the party. Anytime, Nana’s campaign gathers steam; then someone will release another bomb. It becomes an albatross around their neck…It’s about time they tamed some of their members," he told the NPP.

Also addressing the issue, the Parliamentary candidate for Ofoase-Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah condemned the culture of insults but however called on all political parties to bring their members to order.

To him, it is hypocritical on the part of some parties to condemn the comments by the Assin Central MP when they find it difficult to whip their own members into line.
