The voter exhibition exercise started slowly in the Kwesimintsim constituency of the Western Region on Monday.

At the Public Forum East “A” Exhibition Centre, out of 689 eligible voters on the register, only 29 voters had checked their names as at 1200 hrs and this comprised 13 males and 16 females.

Madam Irene Paintsil, the Exhibition Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that none of the voters who registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards in 2012 registration exercise had visited the centre to verify whether his/her name had indeed been deleted from the voters register.

She said all the voters who checked their names on the voter register successfully verified their names on the biometric verification machine.

There were four voters at the centre who had indulged in multiple registrations therefore the Electoral Commission (EC) had compiled their names on a separate register, she added.

When the GNA visited the Public Forum East “B” Exhibition Centre around 1300 hours, there were 27 voters who had checked their names and these were made up of 17 males and 10 females out of 605 eligible voters on the register.

Mr Michael Korabo, the Exhibition Officer, said eight registrants involved themselves in multiple registrations therefore their names were compiled in a separate register for easy tracking.

There was only the National Democratic Congress representative at the centre monitoring proceedings even though the Exhibition Officer claimed that some party representatives came there early in the morning but left around 1200 hours.

The EC had designated July 18 to August 7 between 0700 hours and 1800 hours each day, for the exhibition and verification of the voters’ register across the country.
