National vice Chair of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Anita Desoso has on behalf of the party apologised to the presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo over the use of a coffin at their manifesto launch to mock him.
Some supporters of the NDC at their manifesto launch which was held at the Sunyani Coronation Park were seen carrying a coffin baring the posters of Nana Akufo Addo.
The action was widely criticised by the clergy, general public and other individuals.
Director of Elections for the NPP, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah lambasted the NDC and 'cursed' the party, saying that if what was done was to call for the death of the former attorney general then, members of the umbrella family will die in their numbers.
Deputy General Secretary of the NDC Koku Anyidoho described the act as a political amusement. He said, this is done in all political parties hence, it’s not a big deal.
Madam Otiko Efisah Djabah, National Women's Organizer of the NPP, also described the act as spiritual and stated that, the NDC purposely planned it to bury Nana Addo spiritually.
But speaking to Kwame Tutu on Frontline Tuesday morning, Madam Anita Desoso, debunked the claims but apologised for the act.
She described it as unfortunate and bad adding that, it should not be encouraged again.
She prayed and asked God to forgive those who did that and distance the party from it. She was however quick to refer the NPP to what they did in 2008 when they chanted death songs for the late President Mills.
Madam Anita Desoso questioned if the NPP in the year 2008 also did what they did with the aim of wishing the death of the late Mills. ''I don't know why they carried the coffin. But it was not an idea by the NDC. Maybe some NPP persons may have initiated the idea to paint us black. However, I wish to condemn the act. It was bad and unfortunate.
I pray to God to forgive all of us. This should not happen again. I will also pray that God grants Nana Addo long life and prosperity and any death planned for him should be cancelled,'' she prayed.
