President John Dramani Mahama has opined that Nana Akufo-Addo’s running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will never be given the opportunity to lead the party "should anything happen".
"Let anything happen today and let our brother Bawumia say he is standing for president in NPP. They will never give it to him, I can assure you..." he indicated.
Addressing party supporters in Lawra as part of his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, President Mahama said: “Alhaji Aliu Mahama was vice president under the NPP government. He served faithfully under President Kufuor and, so, when eight years was up and President Kufuor was leaving, the natural order of succession is that he should have been given the opportunity to lead that party, but 17 people contested him and defeated him and that is why I say NDC is a party of opportunity because if NDC wasn’t, who am I? A boy from Bole born in Damango, who am I to stand here and call myself president of the Republic of Ghana?”
“Sometimes I feel sad when I see some of our northern brothers running around and also doing this. … They will use you and dump you. I want to live and see the day. Let anything happen today and let our brother Bawumia say he is standing for president in NPP. They will never give it to him, I can assure you. When the misfortune hit us and our father Professor Mills passed away, the constitution said the vice president should take over, I did. But then we were close to an election. If it was another party, they would have insisted that there should be a congress and in that congress I would have been contested and they would have given the leadership to somebody else,” the President added.

Southerners should volt massively againts NDC since we now known that the party is for Northerners. DIVISIVE PRESIDENT
Mr incompetent president, first of all, Bawumia has not said anywhere that he wants to lead a party. He wants to fix your mess. Secondly, if he decides that he wants to lead his party, you are in no position to determine whether he will or he will not be. Are you God now? Everyone knows that a corrupt person like you would not even be listened to; if you were to appeal to God not to grant Bawumia's request. For Christ's sake, stop being petty. The rigmarole is becoming too much. Focus on the real issues affecting our daily lives.
If Mahama wins dumsor will be worse than ever before. He is saying these things because he has NO campaign message
Ghanaians and John Mahama should get it clear that it was not the NDC who gave him the opportunity to lead their party. He, JDM with the help of some wickeed party members knowing the constitution eliminated Prof Mills and by the constitution no other person will take over but JDM. During the six months period too JDM strengthened the agenda CREATE, LOOT and SHARE so people like Berty Mould adandoned Nana Konadu to support you. We know all so don't disturb us with your tribal politics. We have grown pass that.
so what the president is saying in effect is that everyone should vote for his/her tribesman. lets wait n see how ll win with votes from only his tr.ib.e.s people. what kind of l.o.o.se talk is dat? if you really want to see the character of a man, put him under pressure.
so sad hearing such unfortunate comments coming from the first man of the land. i think is out of desperation. i could you go that low JM. if u think you are marketable sell your ideas and stop this divisive mantra campaign you are embarking. YOUR TIME IS UP. CHANGE NOW
JM, "diwo fie asem" why you dey jealous Bawumiah like that? Wait and see, that NANA is coming to power in Jan 7th 2017 and in 2020 Bawumiah would be our presidential candidate to continue.
@ Joe Crazy, that dictator is now the one who motivates you. So come again.
As if what they did to late Aliu was not enough, they treated Afoko the same way. Interestingly, they use people from the same geographical space to push you out of the party. No one can ever deny the fact that, NPP is an Akan sect and no other ethnic group thrives in that party.
