"My problem with Electoral Commission is that I think it's shameful that you'll charge the media to cover the elections. We're not a very sincere people. We would like to cover things up," Multiple award-winning host of Peace FM's flagship programme 'Kokrokoo' turned the heat on the Electoral Commission (EC) over the Commission's charges for accreditation for media practitioners in the country.
The EC asked the various and interested media houses that seek to cover the 2016 Elections to pay money before they receive accreditations to give field reports on the elections.
Each media house is required to meet the financial charges by the Commission or forfeit its election coverage.
Responding to the EC's order, Mr. Sefa Kayi, affectionately called "Chairman General" for his unmatched broadcast acuity, lambasted the Commission for being unfair to the media.
He expressed his resentments, saying the EC's decision is "just like State protocol asking journalists to pay money to cover the 6th March Independence anniversary. I don't think it's a very good thing you've done. Sadly, we won't talk about it. We'll push it under the carpet but you're denying journalists the right to report the truth and the situations that happen to people. I don't think it's a smart thing to do. I don't know why as a journalist or as part of the media here, we should pay money..."
Chairman General therefore cautioned the EC stating emphatically that "if we're not careful, we'll end up reporting disaster. Little things like what the Electoral Commission has done to us as journalists is what starts this small (small) things. What is 10 cedis to you from a journalist? What is 20 cedis to you from a journalist? We've done it since 1992. Why are you charging us?
"Because you want us to pay for accreditation, what is accreditation? A piece of paper with our names and lamination and we have to pay for it to cover elections that have to do with the future of this country. I am not very happy as a media person."

As someone who many listen to, please next time stay to listen to other views. You did the right thing wrongly.
Bravo chairman am so proud of u u spoke the minds of millions of ghanaians
You have displayed your ignorance and ***barred word***. You knew his secondary school days so what, which year was it and which year are we in now. You have a crab mentality, even the smallest ant is wiser than you.
No one is born a dictator, we the people create dictators when we become sycophants and praise singers and will not hold our leaders responsible. Thank you very much Kwame for saying what was on my mind.
KSK, God Richly Blessed you
I really don't get this at all. So journalists in the country, accredited by the National Media Commission and working for fully accredited institutions aren't qualified enough to be able to cover the elections until the BOGUS EC accredit them. What kind of a country are we living in? The Electoral Commission can just get up and start making rules. YOU KNOW WHAT I AM THINKING OF? I THINK ALL THESE THINGS ARE FROM NDC. THIS IS ONE OF THEIR WAYS TO RIGH THE ELECTION. If all the journalist in the country are allowed to do their work as they should, there would be at least a journalist in the country are allowed to do their work as they should, there would be at least a journalist from one of the various MEDIA houses at a polling station reporting a polling station reporting on the elections. There is plan to stop this to bring this accreditation thing in so journalist are stopped from reporting and so they can RIG THE ELECTIONS. They know there is no way journalists are going to pay for the "***barred word***" accreditation. So that means journalist are not going to be able to be able to report live, and if journalists are not around reporting live, GUESS WHO SMILES????? NDC. How can journalist be charged and accredited to cover elections? Like, what does it even mean? Where in the world did the EC Chair hear this happened? WHY NOW and NOT PREVIOUSLY? NDC is very desperate and would do anything to RIG the ELECTIONS. We should all stand up against them. Is EC Media Accreditation Institution??? What happened to the National Media Commission Accreditations? Like WAEC telling Achemota school unless you apply for accreditation from us, (WAEC), you cannot register your students to take exams even though your school is accredited and registered with accreditation board. Like Ghana Medical Association telling medical students from Legon that unless they accredit the medical program at Legon, secondary to the accreditation Legon have from Tertiary Accreditation Board and Medical Education Accreditation. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS EC CHAIR THINKS SHE IS. VERY ARROGANT and I AM HAPPY KWAME SEFAH SPOKE HIS MIND TO HER. BRAVO KWAME. KEEP ON SPEAKING THE TRUTH. WE ARE BEHIND YOU.
