His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, had a torrid experience yesterday at the Manhyia Palace when he was met with tumultuous chant of ‘change’ from some NPP supporters.
The president and his entourage were there to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the one week celebration of the Queen mother of the Ashanti stool Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa, Ampem II.
The event which was supposed to be solemn one, turned out to be raucous when some of the mourners deliberately shouted and gestured ‘change’ towards the president as he arrived at the funeral grounds.
The security details of the President had difficulties paving way for him. The boisterous act in the Ashanti Region makes it the second time within this year that President Mahama has been hooted at.
During the funeral ceremony of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V in March, 2016, some members of the NPP reportedly hooted at the President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.
The mourners - clad in black, carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.
The mourners claimed President Mahama had declared himself a persona non-grata at the funeral grounds as according to them, the President had previously spoken ill of the people of Kumasi.
“What are you doing, you claim we are ungrateful beings who would never appreciate whatever you do for us, even if you tar our roads with gold, we would never appreciate your efforts, so what are you doing here….,” some of the angry mourners were reported to have said.
However yesterday’s incident nearly caused chaos as the president's security and sympathizers of the ruling party also attempted to reply their opponents in equal measure.

ANIM KUASE NSEM PAA NIE. MY BROTHERS N SISTERS IN NPP KUMASI, YOU HAVE DISGRACED US PAA CHAI.THE PLATFORM WAS NOT FOR POLITICS MADI MO HO YAW PAA
Honestly, most NPP members are not civilized at all, especially in Kumasi. They lack education and walk about thinking that Ghana is all about Kumasi and Nana Addo. If the NPP members were civilised, culturally upright and properly brought up, they would not have disgraced the Asantehene at his mothers funeral. These big headed, extremely dark, hairy and shot midgets will smell pepper on Dec 7
dis kumasi ppl kraa why?? u for grow up u villagers oo
When maha visited kokompe there were a report that he was humiliated and now too they hoot at him. Does it mean wherever mahama pass ther shouldnt be the change sign. Hypocrites all over so if they have started doing the toaso sign would u NDC guys have said the platform wasnt appropriate for that, cheap politics from cheap supportes of NDC
You do this and we get angry and continue to vote against the NPP. Pri.mitive people. You will never cross the 50% mark. We shall continue to vote for Mahama.
Here in Kumasi the disaffection for the NPP is more than in 2012 due to their voilent and divisiive ways led by Wuntumi. NPP will be shocked on Dec 7 than ever before. ***barred word*** and arrogant parrty.
Those commenting the negative way are just confused cos the change sign is for all opposition paties so why must u attack on NPP or since is in kumasi then is NPP, lets learn a bit civilisation in politics iof we really want to go far as a country cos some comments below shows how uncivilised some ghanaians are. why is JJ too an NPP man to do the change sign?. wise up
Massive votes for JM.. Ghana will not make the mistake to vote for a D-W-A-R-F
The phoolishness in u wont permit u to comment wisely, if u cant buy a data to watch the video then dont comment per the headline, and just shut uppppp forver. Cheap politics, the village things of the asahntis were learnt from ur parents so if they stop the ashantis will also stop. peace 2016
This is a clarion call to all Northerners to turnout in their numbers to vote massively for John Mahama. The issue at stake is not about his performance as a president but share hatred and disrespect for him because he is a Northerner. This attitude by these Asganti chalatans will cause a huge disaffection for the NPP and Bawumia in the Zongos and the Northern parts of Ghana. Its shame and disgusting.
