His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, had a torrid experience yesterday at the Manhyia Palace when he was met with tumultuous chant of ‘change’ from some NPP supporters.
The president and his entourage were there to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the one week celebration of the Queen mother of the Ashanti stool Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa, Ampem II.
The event which was supposed to be solemn one, turned out to be raucous when some of the mourners deliberately shouted and gestured ‘change’ towards the president as he arrived at the funeral grounds.
The security details of the President had difficulties paving way for him. The boisterous act in the Ashanti Region makes it the second time within this year that President Mahama has been hooted at.
During the funeral ceremony of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V in March, 2016, some members of the NPP reportedly hooted at the President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.
The mourners - clad in black, carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.
The mourners claimed President Mahama had declared himself a persona non-grata at the funeral grounds as according to them, the President had previously spoken ill of the people of Kumasi.
“What are you doing, you claim we are ungrateful beings who would never appreciate whatever you do for us, even if you tar our roads with gold, we would never appreciate your efforts, so what are you doing here….,” some of the angry mourners were reported to have said.
However yesterday’s incident nearly caused chaos as the president's security and sympathizers of the ruling party also attempted to reply their opponents in equal measure.

Kokoase kruasifoo. Was Manhyia a political rally ground for such a primitive act? i have regretted being an Ashanti from what i saw yesterday. If for nothing at all Mahama have done a lot for us and should not be treated the way they did. A big shame
I'm really surprised BB,BB2 and Alex did not hear the hoots and Kofi DUBAI and all that. That platform was not even appropriate for NPP sympathizers to drum home the change agenda. It was not only disrespectful to the president and his entourage, it did not honor the memory of the late Asantehemaa. You may not like President but why show him open disrespect. Such behaviours will not inure to the benefit of NPP. If i were a floating voter, obviously i would be impressed with what i saw.
for me I don't care whether hooting or ***barred word***. I just wanna say kudos to the photographer who took this shot This is too excellent and splendid too atrophied for any grammatical description. you did well Mr Full shot.
Eiiiii when at all will some journalists in this country stop giving wrong but catchy headlines just to get people's attention to read what they write. Where are the NPP supporters in the video. Does it mean anybody who does the change sign is an NPP supporter? For instance, I am not an NPP supporter and cannot be one but for this election I just want change to put on hold the increasing levels of corruption and get the corrupt ones to answer for their stealing that is all. Even Rawlings did the high five and change sign when he got up to leave the premises. Does that make him an NPP supporter. All the opposition parties are calling for a change and all of them use the change sign so why do you conclude that those using the change sign are all NPP supporters. What kind of journalism is this?
Should be careful about Presenters and their Presentations
Villagers. Nkruasifoo Between NDC and NPP who develped kumasi more than each other? That is my problem with this people. Rawlings did a lot for them in kumasi but they dont appreciate it because he is not one of them and they are doing same to Mahama. BIG SHAME
***barred word*** NPP People. I promise you they will lose this election again.
So at what point in the video did people hoot at the President? Poor reportage.
