His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, had a torrid experience yesterday at the Manhyia Palace when he was met with tumultuous chant of ‘change’ from some NPP supporters.
The president and his entourage were there to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the one week celebration of the Queen mother of the Ashanti stool Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa, Ampem II.
The event which was supposed to be solemn one, turned out to be raucous when some of the mourners deliberately shouted and gestured ‘change’ towards the president as he arrived at the funeral grounds.
The security details of the President had difficulties paving way for him. The boisterous act in the Ashanti Region makes it the second time within this year that President Mahama has been hooted at.
During the funeral ceremony of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V in March, 2016, some members of the NPP reportedly hooted at the President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.
The mourners - clad in black, carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.
The mourners claimed President Mahama had declared himself a persona non-grata at the funeral grounds as according to them, the President had previously spoken ill of the people of Kumasi.
“What are you doing, you claim we are ungrateful beings who would never appreciate whatever you do for us, even if you tar our roads with gold, we would never appreciate your efforts, so what are you doing here….,” some of the angry mourners were reported to have said.
However yesterday’s incident nearly caused chaos as the president's security and sympathizers of the ruling party also attempted to reply their opponents in equal measure.

i chanced upon the yen tia obia "ndc street jam" in kumasi with the president himself in attendance and so I am not surprised to hear this happen to him...Its unfortunate but he dug his own grave!
Why wont this happen to this president when all he does is to pitch one group against the other? Tell him to learn how to make sense when he is on the campaign platform and then the rest of us will see him as the first gentleman of this country otherwise, lie lie.
I wish this people wine so we can teach the a lesson Now the security of the state is in our hand we can't do much should they wine power we will teach them NDC was born from revolution
so what will happen if NPP dont win? You see the same way the Americans thought it was a done deal for the Democrats , the same way the Ashanti think it is a done deal for NPP. please embrace yourself for surprises. just ensure you will not collapse because, NDC can easily win.
I LOVE U JM EVEN MORE THAN EVER.
It is very unfortunate that we still have people in this country who are so uncivilised that its not funny. You hoot at a sitting President because he ios not your choice? When Akuffo Addo went to Volta did any body hoot at him. Ashantis, remember that civilization has come to stay so quickly embrace it and stop behaving as if you are still living on trees.
you see their king Akuffo Ado con not stand this whne he becomes president . he will jail you. the fact is JM is tolerable and the King is naked.
BY THEIR FRUITS THEY SHALL BE KNOWN................JM FORGET THOSE 1D10000000000000000000TS AND TOASO SAA WAI.E NO BE ASHANTIS P3 DEY VOTE FOR GHANA SO DOGGG DEM KORAAAA.JM ONE TOUCH,JM TOASO SAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Seriously, Peace reporters should check on their headlines because this is not the first time. Why did you witness about three political signs but you wrote on one. Don't create any mess, we need peace. I will vote for peace not tribalism. Sometimes is good we put our media men to their rightful place instead of fighting over and arguing over nothing.
@Naa yes education is good and you this cannot happened in your region because you go to school. But you dump refuse outside, you ease yourself outside, you give your rooms out for rent and sleep outside with all your education. This is not the first time that a sitting president has been hooted at, it happened to Busia in Accra (Osu, Chokor,Jame Town). So is not only in Ashanti Region that this has happened.
