His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, had a torrid experience yesterday at the Manhyia Palace when he was met with tumultuous chant of ‘change’ from some NPP supporters.
The president and his entourage were there to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the one week celebration of the Queen mother of the Ashanti stool Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa, Ampem II.
The event which was supposed to be solemn one, turned out to be raucous when some of the mourners deliberately shouted and gestured ‘change’ towards the president as he arrived at the funeral grounds.
The security details of the President had difficulties paving way for him. The boisterous act in the Ashanti Region makes it the second time within this year that President Mahama has been hooted at.
During the funeral ceremony of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V in March, 2016, some members of the NPP reportedly hooted at the President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.
The mourners - clad in black, carried the flag of the NPP - started hooting at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.
The mourners claimed President Mahama had declared himself a persona non-grata at the funeral grounds as according to them, the President had previously spoken ill of the people of Kumasi.
“What are you doing, you claim we are ungrateful beings who would never appreciate whatever you do for us, even if you tar our roads with gold, we would never appreciate your efforts, so what are you doing here….,” some of the angry mourners were reported to have said.
However yesterday’s incident nearly caused chaos as the president's security and sympathizers of the ruling party also attempted to reply their opponents in equal measure.

This can only happen in kuamsi where else. The Nkurasefour are more there is only few that are educated so what do u expect. How can you hoot at a sitting president. U think your king is better than the president of the republic or what. God is watching.
So you expect Voltarians and Northeners to also hoot at Akuffo Addo ehhh
We the people of Ghana have decided to vote OUT NDC. WE WILL CHANGE THIS CORRUPT GOVERNMENT.
poor work
THIS CAN ONLY HAPPEN IN ASHANTI REGION. EDUCATION IS GOOD INDEED. GOD HAVE MERCY
Tribal wall cannot solve any problem in Ghana. Reading these comments, I am very sad about the thinking fellow Ghanaian who see their tribes as more important the Ghana. We do not have a future. in 21st century Ghanaian are still in tribal war. Eii we will remain forever poor. I have lost hope in the future of my motherland.
It is unfortunate but it is a well deserved hooting. How does the President think the people of Kumasi feel when he goes up north and then pitches NPP, Ashantis and northerners against each other just for votes. Do you think you will get a good reception?. Come on, this is common sense.
Seriously, civilization is still far from some people.
What is this issue of NPP supporters hooting at the President? Did u see anybody doing the change sign in NPP clothing? The change sign belongs to all opposition parties and therefore not the exclusive preserve of the NPP. So whoever wrote the story could have said, "some mourners hoot at the President",and that would have been ok, but to say NPP supporters, i beg to differ. Mind you, the mourners are from all over the country so it wouldn't even be right to say Kumasi people did the hooting. In any case, is the President not supposed to have gained grounds in the Ashanti region and that he is getting 1million votes from there?
