The public has been urged to discard news making round that the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Richard Anaamo, has undertaken dubious contracts estimated to have led to the country losing over GHC 5 billion.
The Daily Statesman newspaper reported that over the last four years, the Director General of GPHA has "impudently and arrogantly" awarded contracts through sole-sourcing to his cronies.
This, the newspaper claims was achieved through connivance with the Chief Executive Officer of Public Procurement Authority.
But Mr. Eric Arthur, a special aide to Mr. Richard Anaamo tells Okay FM that the Director General of GPHA has worked with the institution for more than 35 years and knows how dangerous it is to engage in activities that would bring the name of GPHA into disrepute.
“If the daily Statesman is reporting that activities under him (Anaamo) have led to debt, then it is a liar. The institution (GPHA) is a big one and anything done there is being monitored by all political activists. Aside this, there are both internal and external auditors ensuring that everything done is legit”, he said.
He continued that “all GPHA contracts are advertised in the papers” and dared the New Statesman to boldly state one contract that Mr. Richard Anaamo gave out through sole-sourcing.
About 400 workers, according to the paper have been employed to work at the new Maritime Hospital since Nana Akufo-Addo won the general elections of December 7, with their appointed letters also backdated.
But this claim was also refuted by Mr. Anaamo. Under the watch of Mr. Richard Anaamo, Eric Arthur believes the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has seen a positive development stressing that the Maritme Hospital has been established to help the nation.
He further stressed that it was also a lie that Mr. Richard Anaamo has used his authority to employ 400 people to work in the newly built hospital.
“All the lies are being peddled by certain disgruntled people and we know all those behind the news” he noted.
He ended by advising the public to desist from the act of disgracing “people who have worked harder by publishing their photos on frontpages and calling them thieves”.

hello People, I read this in the chronicle news paper sometime ago: Dr Richard Anammoo, the DG of GPHA, has taken the tema port to another great milestone with the near completion of 128-bed state of the art three-storey hospital with a helipad. that means the health facility would benefit not only the staff at GHPA and their dependants but the tema community as a whole and the expatriates that uses our port. The interesting thing about this is that this very project has been on the drawing board for how many years now , only God knows and now this man came built it from ground to finish and now out of jealousy instead of congratulating him for his good vision for the port and its staff, you guys are rather accusing him of corruption. Trust me God is watching all of us and the battle is still the lords
Its a shame that this man's name is being tarnished. But that's what happens when politicians hide behind seemingly incorruptible gentlemen to do mischief. No more he said or she said this, investigate these claims and lets move on as a country. We've wasted enough time over petty things....
this is Ghana for you, sometimes we speak evil of people without the facts. the like the ndc babies with sharp...... did to nana addo during the election but I think we all knows what happened. the rest is history. God bless Dg and his team. The battle is the lords
The stick that was used to hit Tachie, Baah will similarly face his comeuppance.
am surprise people are writing rubbish about this good man and how can you just conclude that bcos a contact has been awarded via sole sourcing means there was no good value for money spent and full of corruption. that's not always the case. actually if you guys care to know its the politicians that abuse sole sourcing to cook jobs for their people but this man is not a politician, if the port over the years had people like him to manage the port together with some of the good managers in place today, like this port will be like Singapore port. Even look at the maritime hospital he and his team built. In tema the only big hospital we have is the general hospital but know one wants to go there. most of the facilities there are in bad state to the extent most people that are sent to that facility never made it back. may their souls RIP. and this man and his has manage to build such a big hospital for all of us in tema. come on, come on guys
Guys lets celebrate this man for what he has been able to achieve at the Ghana ports during his time as DG. his vision and exemplary leadership has change the port to become one of the best in Africa. its just easy to verify and compare the port before he became DG and the port during his time as DG.
Those saboteurs leaking wrong information to the press thinking their government is now in power, God is looking at you all. see the way this current management has worked so hard to transform the port. before money from the port use to sit there and the DG and the politicians will come and just empty the account for political activities. this DG has used the money to develop the port and position the port in such a way that it has become attractive for developing partners to invest in the port expansion project. just look at the huge sums of money MPS is investing in the port expansion project. if the port is been mismanage by the current management like this story want us to believe, do u think all these monies would to given out for the expansion work
there has been a number of DG's at the port. what most of them did was use the money to pay fat fat allowances to themselves . but just look at what this new management has been able to do within this short while. transform the port to E Port, improved SECURITY, Capacity building among personnel and many more which has helped the port to become one of the best in Africa and number one in the sub region according to the latest international maritime ratings
this man and his team has worked so hard to transform the port. please people of Ghana lets praise them rather than what we are doing
