President Nana Akufo-Addo must be the one to occupy the state property currently being occupied by former president John Mahama and his family in the event that the latter moves out, rather than give it to vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has argued.
There is currently a controversy regarding a request by Mr Mahama to keep the property as part of his ex gratia. While the outgone government claims there was an agreement with the new government for Mr Mahama to keep the property, the governing party’s side of the transition team has denied there being any such understanding.
Media reports have said Vice President Bawumia is currently stranded as a result of Mr Mahama’s quest to keep the property. Other reports suggest Dr Bawumia is to be housed at Australia House.
Speaking to the issue on Accra100.5FM’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, on Tuesday 10 January, Mr Asiedu Nketia told host Chief Jerry Forson that he found it “very funny that they [NPP] are saying former president Mahama should vacate the bungalow to give way to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia,” questioning: “Has Mahamudu Bawumia ever been president of Ghana?
“If it is President Akufo-Addo that will occupy the bungalow if Mr Mahama moves out, then that is appropriate, but why are they saying it is Bawumia that has to occupy that property?”
He said former vice president Amissah-Arthur’s official residence is currently vacant after he moved out “so why then are you (NPP) saying Bawumia is stranded because Mr Mahama is still occupying that property? It means you are up to no good. It means the conditions enjoyed by presidents of the republic do not match the standards of President Akufo-Addo so the property should be given to the vice president so that a grander property could be put up for him.”

Asiedu nketia is wearing his party hat. If it had happened other way round how would he feel. Let's be reasonable the place was meant for vice not for president. Let him vacate the place for the new vice
Mahama occupied the house when he was the vice President so what is he talking about? Where was the official residence of the late president Atta Mills? The important thing is for the former president to vacate the house asap.
Lets face it people, has Asiedu Nketia ever made sense?.He talks trash as always
Asiedu, the house is meant for the vice and not the president? The fact that mahama opted to stay there doesn't mean its a residential building for the president. What is wrong with your head?
Let's go back in history, Did Rawlings, Atta Mills and Kuffour have another government home apart from the castle when they were presidents? I am not sure of the answer to this question but if the answer is no, then President Mahama has caused financial loss to the State. I argue this because of Mosquito's argument. In fact, I don't expect Akuffo-Addo to ask for a new house fter his term of office since he has a house at Nima. Mahama gave Akua Donkor a house so is he saying he does not own a house? I have serious problems with presidents who do not have the nations interest at hand. Patriotism has gone to the dogs and even former presidents say because it is their due they must certainly have it. Obviously, I see such people as greedy and will want to milk the State of our scarce resources. In fact I disagree with Kuffour that every president must be given a house. If the person does has not have a house then the State must provide him one but otherwise I do not see the point especially when they have given houses as gifts to other people. I had an experience with a rich uncle, some years past when his wife demanded they get a new house because they could afford a new one. They lived in a very big house whose boy quarters was a complete 3 bedroom house with a master bedroom. The main house was a 5 bedroom house with a huge garage for 2 cars and house guest room. Each rooms had their own toilet and bath. The house was really pretty. After my uncle's wife requested for the new house, my uncle called all of us in the house including his wife to come to his wife's bedroom. He asked her to lie down on her kingsize bed. He then asked what she was going to do with the rest of the space in the room. This was an exceptionally large bedroom. At that point we all realized she did not need more extra space because she already had enough. As a young man, I learnt on that day that some people have too much and did not realize how much they had. So the question is why another house? We acquire so much and yet when you die you leave it for others to enjoy, what is the point? Being a president is public service. Our society is so 'moneytized' that everyone is looking for any loophole to make money. Presidents should not behave like everyone. They should learn to set good examples. I liked president Kuffuor's tenure but in the last days his show of opulence and extravagance made me lose some respite for him. A couple of months ago, the sports minister asked the Black Stars to sacrifice for their country, why not the president, the number citizen. Set a good example by saying that even though I am entitled to a house I will forfeit it for my country because I already have a house of my own. All I may need is an office and the rest. If presidents set this precedent then the next president will become sensitive to the idea of patriotism. This goes parliamentarians as well who after every 4 years demand so much even for those saying on. End of Service benefits should go to those that leave parliament and are not coming back. They should also set this precedent to save our country the needed funds to fix the country. One thing I respect Akuffo-Addo for was the fact that he did not take per diem during Kuffour's time. I really respect him for that.
General I pray u live long to keep teaching us common sense
This man is so disrespectful. How does he sleep at night with all the garbage he has on his mind?. The campaign is over so he shouldget over himself and do something constructive. He should create jobs and help improve the current employment sitiation and stop the empty talks. He should start showing people how much you are about change by deed. Peace FM, please stop publishing his vain words.
ITS THE GHANAIAN MEDIOCRE MEDIA THAT HAS ALWAYS GIVEN THIS MAN SPACE TO MAKE ILLOGICAL STATEMENTS AND ALL THEY DO IS ENCOURAGE HIM WITHOUT ASKING HIM INTELLIGENT AND CRITICAL QUESTIONS.
Hmmmmmm this man is the most senseless person ghana hv
***barred word*** BI NTI GHANAFUO REBRE. AKUFFO ADDO IS ASKED TO TAKE THE HOUSE FROM MAHAMA NOT BECAUSE OF WHO WOULD OCCUPY IT. THIS IS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE. WE SHOULD NOT ALLOWED OUTGOING PRESIDENTS TO ALLOCATE TO THEMSELVES WHAT THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO. ASIEDU YOU HAVE NO PRINCLPE, HENCE YOUR ARGUMENT.
