Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has condemned the conduct of some youth believed to be supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) who are taking over state institutions.
According to him, the act do not only cause fear and panic in the country, but also create disaffection for the government.
“I think if you are the President of a country, it is important for your followers to know that you are President for all and not for one party and so for the supporters to go on rampage and destroy state resources, I think it is unfortunate and needs to be condemned,” he said on Kasapa FM.
Two days after the swearing in of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, some young men believed to be NPP supporters attempted to take over the Passport Office in Accra, the office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and some other state institutions including toll booths and public toilets across the country.
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and National Disaster Management Office (NADMO) in Sagnerigu district in Tamale were put under lock and key. The workers were barred from entering their offices. It took the presence of Tamale police officers for sanity to prevail.
The situation at Bodi in the Western Region was the same. Some NPP youth forced their way into the offices of the National Health Insurance (NHIS) in the district to assault some staff and destroyed properties of the institution.
Kwesi Pratt describing the act as senseless indicated that it was illegal for supporters to seize public facilities because of a change of government and called on law enforcement agencies to bring perpetrators to book.
