NPP Member of Parliament [MP] for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called a thorough investigation into the bribery scandal hovering on the neck of Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.
Boakye Agyarko is alleged to have bribed members of the minority group on the Appointments Committee with GHS 3,000 each to facilitate his approval by the House.
Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh noted that “Parliament will lose its credibility if this allegation is left to die on its own naturally without any proper investigations made.”
“I speak to issues based on what I have heard and seen, therefore, I have begun to have doubts about who Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central is . . .,” he noted.
He has called on all his colleagues to humble themselves in serving their nation particularly with the choice of words that come out of their mouths and their behavior towards people irrespective of who they are and where they belong to.
Genesis of Boakye Agyarko bribery scandal
Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga alleged on Accra-based Radio Gold on Friday that the Energy Minister designate, Boakye Agyarkko who was hailed by Ghanaians for outstanding performance before Parliament’s Appointment Committee sneaked an amount of GHC100, 000 to the house to be distributed to members on both sides of the committee.
According to him, each of the members from the minority side of Parliament’s appointment committee was given an amount of GHȻ3,000.
He said he took the money because they had discussed issues about their sitting allowances with the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak and he promised to find out from the Chairman of the Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu as to when the allowances will be paid.
Muntaka Mubarak, he said, later gave the amount to them saying the money was coming from the Chairman of the committee only for them to hear it was coming from Boakye Agyarko.
This allegation has been denied by the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu and Muhammad Muntaka with the former swearing by the Quoran that he never paid any money to Mahama Ayariga and the Minority members of the committee.

shame to NPP and see what you are saying
This bribery scandal raises so many questions. 1. Assuming Mahama Ayariga's version is true, and that the NDC members initially thought the GHS3000 was their sitting allowance, is that how much the tax payers' money is spent? They did really expect to be paid and GHS3000 was not out of the ordinary. It was only when they 'realized' it was bribery money that they returned it. So what is the rate? GHS3000 per designee that appears before them, per week, or what? Someone tell us. 2. If I am right, this issue came to light when Mahama Ayariga announced it on radio. Was that the right avenue to report the alleged bribery? Isn't there a procedure for reporting such. I'll leave it at these two. The speaker and the leadership in parliament must take this particular case very seriously. If it means bringing in an independent investigator (not CHRAJ - that office is tainted!), so be it, and anyone found to lying/guilty ruthlessly dealt with - a suspension from the house should be the minimum, and if it is true the designee attempted to bribe, he should be barred from ever holding political office in Ghana.
There is no wisdom in this for the reason being even if the Minority on the vetting committee does not approve Agyarko's nomination, it will go to the floor of parliament for deliberation and voting. Now, what is the number of the minority compared to the majority? At the end of the day there is no way the minority could prevent Agyarko from becoming the substantive minister. So why would he want to give Bribe? IT'S A TOTAL LIE. Look at the people Okudzato is calling as witnesses; Nii Lantey and the likes. You guys are not wise because the angle with which you want to pay Agyarko back is so full of flaws.
u guys will be using the word REPUTATION and we will not know the truth. u r thinking of the parliament what about those MPS who raised the alarm dont they have reputation too?
Instead of you to help in finding the truth you are hear ruining their reputation. You are a disgrace as an MP. Chimp like you. Pray your name is not mentioned. We tot you were better of fighting corruption. No wonder.
