President Nana Akufo-Addo has revealed that the celebration of Ghana’s 60th anniversary will cost a total amount of GHC20 million.
He revealed this during the unveiling of the Ghana at 60 on Thursday, February 9 at the Flagstaff House.
The president was quick to add that “corporate Ghana in particular will provide the funds for the anniversary” and that his ambition is to commemorate the anniversary “with the minimum or no burden at all on the national treasury”.
Mr Akufo-Addo had earlier promised a modest celebration during the inauguration of the planning committee.
He ealrlier said: “No matter the diversity of opinions and the diversity of origins, we are all fully paid-up members of the Ghana project and these celebrations should advance that sense of unity and oneness among us.
“So I have decided that we should have the Planning Committee to begin work today, 26th of January, towards the anniversary, which is some six or seven weeks away, a very short period of time.”
Mr Akufo-Addo named Mr Ken Amankwa as chairman for the anniversary planning committee.

Where did he say he will spend $5million or gh20 million for Ghana at 60 in the statement u just read.
This man thinks he is smart. He is using corporate Ghana to avoid being scrutinized. Whether corporate Ghana sponsors this anniversary or not you will account for every pesewa spent on this anniversary. We will be citizens not spectators. I will impress upon the minority ensure that every thing this government does is put to strict scrutiny.
Thumbs up Nana..these are brains working! 5 million dollars for a country that is 60 with rich natural resources and even can't fund their anniversary with public funds? whereas people receive booties from state coffers of 12 million plus dollars (woyome's cash) for no work done to throw better parties and you guys here say it's wrong to have corporate Ghana sponsor gh @ 60? This is most prudent decision in the history of remarkable celebrations of our independence. Nana aba# Nana wo adwen
Nana, the way you are starting is not encouraging at all. You promise to safe guard the nation's purse but 5million dollars for just celebration is on the high side and please take note that it doesn't matter where the money will come from because at the end of the day there is no free lunch and the nation will still bear the cost one way or the other. Please Nana don't disappoint us.
Just a month in power, recruits being sacked,20mil budget on Gh at 60?? Buhari sef better.
Hmmmmmm
Otiko should tell nana addo that he has the devil heart for telling Ghanaians ndc had been mismanaging our resources only to come and do worse. Just two months into your presidency you are ready to spend 20million Ghana cedis for mere anniversary. There are still youth employment yet you think monies should be wasted on anniversary. Dumsor is going on because government does not have money to fuel our plants. May God help us.
Bleeding economy paaa nea.....herh me man GHANA
I think say u say the country day owe big time
nana am npp but i think 20 Million is too much for this celibration this is about 5 Million dollers which is not a small amount of Money please think about what this amount of Money can do in the lives of some less previledged individuals of villages .please do things that will benefit individual ghanaians and not those who have enough this omount of Money spending is not modesty.nana ask tanzania leader how his indepence day was celebrated..please dont give room for People to say all sort of things about you
