Atik Mohammed has defended the Joe Ghartey Committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament to probe the bribery allegation against some members of the House.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed wondered why critics think the representation of some members on the Committee will be a conflict of interest.
According to him, the critics have no point because he strongly believes the Committee will do execute their mandate without fear or favour.
“There’s no conflict of interest. They’re Parliamentarians. They have honour to protect and they will work to help Ghana and all that…I didn’t see and I still don’t see any conflict of interest. I’ve faith that they will do a good work. They’ll do that which will bring honour to the name of Parliament and to Ghanaians.”
Though not intending to preempt the Committee, Atik Mohammed however held that the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee Joe Osei Owusu and Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak; persons at the center of the bribery allegation, may be vindicated.
He further called on the Committee not to spare any person found guilty but rather give them the necessary punishment which includes expulsion from the Legislative House.
“If it turns out that all that they said about Boakye Agyarko, Osei Owusu and Muntaka; if it turns out not to be true, that maximum sanction should be given to them. Because they no longer would have what it takes to be Members of Parliament.”

YES, WHEN HE COMMITS A CRIME INCLUDING PERJURY THEN HE CAN REMOVED FROM PARLIAMENT
THE MINISTER FOR POWER DIDN'T NEED TO PAY BRIBE BECAUSE THE MINISTERIAL POST WAS ALREADY IN HIS POCKET SINCE HE HAS MAJORITY MPS ON HIS SIDE. THIS AYARIGACOSIS IS SIMPLY SOME CHILD'S PLAY. THE WHOLE ALLEGATION IS UNINTELLIGENTLY, UNINTELLIGENT AND CAN COME FROM A SATANIC PARTY WHICH HAS TERRIBLY LOST AN ELECTION AND KNOW FOR SURE THAT THEY CAN NEVER EVER COME BACK TO POWER AGAIN NO MATTER WHAT!!!! IT IS PURE BULL.***barred word***!!!!
Kwasiaaaa,,, what if it's true???? You think Ghanaians don't know what goes on in that so called parliament house
@Kofi & Taliban. No matter how you suppress the cork in water it will come afloat when you release it. Ablakwa we know what is capable of doing. Have you forgotten the 1.6million jobs? There had not been any bribery and they think they were in the studios of Radio Gold and could get away with it but this time round they will pay dearly for it. That is how God works.
Absolutely ***barred word***! How can u conclude Joe Osei is clean when the investigations has just begun. That same hard sanction you propose be meted to the minority should also b meted to the chairman n Muntaka. I am convinced totally believe the minority's allegations against the chairman. His posture alone during his appearance showed he is guilty of the said allegation. Am not surprise though, for an ashanti never works anywhere or stay long at where he is if there is no money running through his hands. He is an experienced bribery man from DVLA. What do u expect?
I listened to you on Kokrokoo, and was very disappointed at you and the sit-in host. You both sounded biased in your analysis, and seem to think the allegation is a fabrication to tarnish one's hard earned reputation. Be it as it may, objectivity is the mark of wisdom when it comes to such controversial issues. I think this was pointed out by a caller but the host shamefully tried to imply your submission seemingly was across board and vice versa. Atik, you came across as someone who is either jealous of the accusers, as possibly you may seem in your own eyes to be knowledgeable or wiser than them. Your comparison of the investigation that took place in your Party was flawed. The 3rd Arm of the State or gov't should not be compared to Political party-level interrogation or investigation of issues. Please as many people have reiterated the Ad hoc committee lacks the merit to come out with the truth. I pray the put Ghana above political bickering.
