The National Democratic Congress has accused the ruling government of spreading falsehood with claims that the economy is in a bad state.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, in his first state of the Nation Address in Parliament Tuesday, indicated that he inherited a bad economy from the Mahama-led administration.
“Total projected expenditure for 2016 was GH¢43.9 billion (26% of GDP) but actual expenditure amounted to GH¢50.3 billion (30.2% of GDP). It appears, from what we are finding out, that some GH¢7 bn of arrears and outstanding payments circumvented public financial management system. The country’s debt, he said stands at 74% of GDP . . . As at the beginning of 2009, Ghana’s total debt stock was GH¢9.5 billion. By the end of 2016, the debt had ballooned to GH¢122 billion. Ghana’s debt stock now stands at 74% of GDP . . . In fact, 92% of Ghana’s total debt stock was incurred in the last eight years under the previous government,” the President said.
Speaking in an interview to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, former Deputy Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson posited that it is untrue that the NDC left a bad economy.
“ . . the economy that the NDC left for the NPP was a strong economy,” he noted.
The former deputy Minister also wondered why President Akufo-Addo did not talk about inflation and rather concentrated on other aspects of the economy.
“Maybe he has foreseen that he will not be able to fulfill all his promises that is why he is making these excuses. He didn’t talk about inflation which as at January was 13.3%. My worry is that during the campaign inflation was heavy on their agenda but now they don’t want to talk about it; because it’s good for the economy, they’ve decided to keep quiet on it. I was really surprised when he said 122bn . . . and that 92 percent of the debt was created by the NDC government. I challenge them that the numbers cannot be the case. I am suggesting that the economy that the NDC left for the NPP was a strong economy . . . numbers don’t lie. At least he should have given former President John Mahama some credit,” he added.

I blame Atta Mill may his soul rest in peace who employed these young guys who had their six months masters degrees outside ghana. Just imagine ministers like Ato Forson, Kofi Buah and many others. They were just a waste. This Foron guy was a headache to Mr Terphe the former economic minister. Folks, just spent a time and listen to their radio discussions. The two Kofi Buah who was running a mobile mail service in the US is now fabulously rich. Just listen to his attempt to speak the American slangs'.
I wonder how this Forson guy got the deputy economic minister position. In fact he is such a naive that all his submissions on economic discussion is appalling. Yes he might have studied economics but he is not an economists. No wonder he is always aggressive during radio discussions.
when did some sycophants in the NPP REALIZED that you don't call your president a lair, ***barred word***, Goat and all sorts of names. Remember you reap what you sow. We should all wise up if we want these attitude out of our national politics.
GIVE THE NDC THIE.F JOHN MAHAMA FOR COOKING THE NATION'S ACCOUNTS, HIDING A HUGE GH CEDIS 7.0 BILLIONS TO DECEIV.E THE IMF??????????? THIS CLASS ONE PUPIL WAS ALSO GIVEN A JOB AS DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER IN GHANA??????????? GHANA WAS INDEED SWIMMING IN MEDIOCRITY AND FAILURE!!!!!!!!!!!! NO DOUBT JOHN MAHAMA CLOCKED A WHOPPING GH CEDIS 122 BILLIONS IN NATIONAL INDEBTEDNESS, A FIGURE BIGGER THAN ALL OTHER GOVERNMENTS SINCE INDEPEDENCE PUT TOGETHER. GOOD RIDDANCE TO THESE NDC FAILURES AND INCOMPETENT THIEVE.S.
Ato Furson I am here to give that credit to John Dramani Mahama for you to be satisfied. "A British state (Isis) fighter who died in a suicide attack against the Iraqi Army in Mosul was a former Guantanamo Bay detainee who was paid compensation by the U K" This is to tell all Ghanaians that the two Guantanamo Bay detainees are a threat to our national security. They must be sent back to Trump. This is the credit you asked for.
So when koraa will this Ajumako London watchman tell the truth? I consider what he says these days to be thrash. Your end is near becos the people of AJUMAKO area are now recognizing your true nature. Its only in Ghana that liars like this azaa guy can be ministers and a MPs
ON THE BILLIONS OF DEBT LEFT ON GHANAIANS WITH NO WORK TO SHOW FOR ?
He looks like a living skull. Dead man walking and talking. I polite conversation was never say someone lied we say it was an exaggeration. Bushman like ex NDC ministers will come out and say a president of less than 100 days has lied to his people. Get over it NDC you lost fairly.
CASSIEL ATO FORSON,can you define for the world the nature and the state of the economy as it stood January 07, 2017? In what consist the lie you see in the 21 February, 2017 state of the Nation address His Excellency the President delivered to the world? You do not ever need to posit the errors you craft will ever stay hidden even when they call for correction for their harm to the health of the nation state's economy. You would do worse wrong were you ever to be allowed to run the economy.
Is Mr Ato Forson calling Mr President Nana Addo a liar? Do we have respect for authority at all? Or because of democracy so i can get up and beginning to call my elders names? Well Thanks to Mr Forson and my question to him is that When they were in power where was he and why didn't he come out to give us such analytical analysis for to know the real state of the nation.Am pointing it out straight to Mr Forson that When you are in governance you only have four years to put things in place for the people who voted you into power and if they are pleased with your good works they renew or give you an extension of extra four years to reap up your good works. So he can't come out and tell all their 8years in power they used all the 8years to plan for the future of this country. That's not what we elected him and his government to come do.voted for them to come and fix the problems facing the country by then,if there was any at all.Silence is gold,so if Mr Forson can't beat them he should join them. And should please put a stop to that one man show.
