First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has reiterated government’s promise to fix the economy despite the challenges it inherited from the John Mahama administration.
She asked Ghanaians to “trust” the Akufo-Addo administration to deliver on that promise.
“Despite the challenges, we will fix the economic situation. Trust this government to deliver on this promise,” Mrs Akufo-Addo said in a tweet.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, delivering his maiden State of the Nation address in Parliament on Tuesday 21 February, said despite the weak economy he had inherited, he would work to fix it as he was not elected to complain.
Mr Akufo-Addo painted a gloomy image of the state of the nation. According to him, “the reality of the state of Ghana’s public finances today is quite stark”.
He noted that the persistent resort to borrowing for any additional expenditure to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians was not sustainable, adding: “We cannot continue this way with our public finances.”
Mr Akufo-Addo stated that Ghana’s banking sector had not escaped the economic decline and had become increasingly fragile, noting that bad loans in the banking sector had risen significantly.
He said his government would implement some tough, prudent and innovative policies to “get out of this financial cul-de sac”.
Despite the myriad difficulties he claimed the country faced, Mr Akufo-Addo and his wife have given the assurance the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration would restore the economy to good health.

Bamboo and kenkey politics. What does she know? Ghana is in trouble. The couple are in a hurry to loot...
She wants to be in the limelight. We will fix the economy rhetorics is no answer to any question. Back up with accurate stats. Do not make noise like your husband. Ghanaians cannot wait to see the promised land.
STONE FACE
Which Ministry does she falls. Since when has she started talking about economy. I understand already you move with seven SUV's. Please Madam just cook good food and pamper our president for us. As for fixing an economy is not part of the bargain.
@ Koboo or whatever you call yourself, because she is a woman, she is rude. what is wrong with some of you guys? i just don't get it.
The talking is too much. Fix it now.
Tweaah! Is Saul also among the prophets? Since when was a first lady elected or charged with the duty to fix the economy of a nation. Madam, think twice, be humble and don't make such empty claims with such authority. This is pride. No one has charged you with the duty to fix Ghana's economy. You will be the first to complain when people start to attack you because things are not going well. By making such bold statements, you now have undertaken to be a public official in power to fix the economy, therefore, you should not complain that you are not a politician when things go bad and people attack you.
Madam first lady, I know by the help of the Almighty God you will fix the Economy. Still the battle is for the Lord.
Insha Alahu it would be fixed by nnp leadership within shortest possible period
