A political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has questioned President Akufo Addo’s decision to run his government with a hundred and ten ministers.
According to him, the number is too large for the country and will not promote efficiency as suggested by the President.
He said the President could have done with fewer ministers who will deliver on their mandate efficiently.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Prof. Gyampo told host, Richard Sky, that “the idea of efficiency is using few to achieve more. So if you have a government that is made up of over 100 ministers and you describe this as big, it doesn’t promote efficiency. You need a few ministers to prosecute your agenda. I’m not sure the Akufo-Addo administration needs all these people to help him redeem his campaign promises.”
He noted that, the size of the government will certainly take a toll on the nation’s coffers. He said the government’s obligation to pay salaries, provide vehicles, security, accommodation, among other things will affect the country’s finances rather than protect it as being argued by a section of the public.
“If a government is big enough to think of doing things to satisfy the needs of people, it is big enough at the same time to take from the people. You will succeed in creating wealth, but the same wealth will be gobbled by the very people who are serving in government so at the end of the day, the ordinary people will be missing out in terms of development,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo’s appointment of 110 ministers including deputies to serve in his government, has generated controversy as some Ghanaians say it betrays their trust in the new government, which was expected to refrain from any activity that has the tendency of plundering the state coffers

Gyampo, you are so narrow-minded. Your definition of efficiency is so superficial. Let me give you two known definition of efficiency. 1. Efficiency is the measure of the relationship between organisational input and output. 2. Efficiency is the effectiveness of which an organisation is able to meet its objectives. In other words, it is where the organisation is able to produce the desire effect without waste. I am really not surprised about the way you argue on issues. Reading your few articles tells me that you really lack analytical sense. In an effort to let your voice be heard by NGOs who finance your organisation, you really end up disgracing yourself. Please try to make some sense!
Gyampo whether you talk or sh*t up your party ndc will never come back. The President is using his constitutional powers to elect who he wants to work with and the constitution empowers him to select as much as he wants because it was silent on the number to choose so if he thinks 200 will be okay for him Gyampo what's your problem? Your party is struggling for leadership and you can offer yourself and see if Ghanaians will give you the man date and when that happens you can choose 10 who cares? Your critique of a 2 month old government won't solve your problem and won't bring back your ndc party. The a Ghanaian people have giving him a mandate to work for them and they will judge him after the 4 years not your talking and criticizing everything done by this government. If you have a problem of his selection of his appointees then I don't know what you will do about their promises which they will deliver and succeed,I know you will have a problem even if they fulfill their promises. Gyampo is behaving like a rival wife who is never pleased with anything concerning the other woman even if every one say is perfect she will still find fault and that is exactly what he is doing but he will fail. A university lecturer turned ndc serial caller I don't know what time he goes to lectures because Gyampo is always on the air waves talking. Why should the state pay somebody who is supposed to be in the classroom but always talking on the airwaves? What time does he get to revise his notes to go to class if even he has been attending classes.
