Parliament has postponed its final ruling on the Mahama Ayariga bribery allegation which was supposed to have been given by the Speaker on Friday March 31.
Speaker of the House, Prof. Mike Ocquaye addressing the members indicated that following developments from the report that was laid on the floor by the 5 member Joe Ghartey committee, he (Speaker) has postponed the final ruling on it until further notice.
He further indicated that the postponement has also been as a result of the absence of Mahama Ayariga from parliament.
Background:
Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central leveled a bribery allegation against some members of the appointments committee indicating that Boakye Agyarko, Minister for Energy, had brought monies to be shared amongst them.
Following a public uproar, parliament set up a 5-member committee to investigate the allegation and give recommendations on how the house can cleanse its dented image.
On Thursday March 30, the committee presented its report on the floor and categorically stated that Mahama Ayariga, who made the allegation, did not have any evidence to back his claim.
The committee therefore indicted the MP and said he should ‘render an unqualified apology to the House.’ In rendering his apology, the MP raised some concerns about the entire process of the investigation and gave a conditional apology saying “…if you want me to apologise, then I apologise.”
This comment drew the house into heavy verbal banter for several hours, forcing the Speaker to adjourn proceedings. Following the latest decision of the speaker, the entire country would have to wait until further notice.

I like the usage of your choice of words. In fact you use the correct words of register and your sentences are diction but I think you are being biased towards ndc parliamentarians in this issue. Why do you think the bribery allegation is true? How can a lawyer and a shrewd politician made a bribery allegation against an opponent (political) without any concrete evidence to support it. I might be naive here I don't think Any smart person like the energy minister will think about giving out such an amount to these highly educated and indeed rich politicians to influence them. I would have believed this bribery allegation if it was and is supported by the minority leader. The minority leader is a member of the committee ,isn't he? @Kofi K over to you and come again.
Expelling Ayariga is not the solution to the rot in the House. What sort of security breach is the Joe Ghartey committee alluding to? In any way the legal arguments Ayariga raised all adds up to improving the work of the House. I strongly liked Ayariga's preamble to his apology. Is the House seeking the truth or just an apology? Money passed hands and that is a fact people want to hide in other to protect the image of the House. But what image are they protecting? All and sundry are conversant with the dealings in our country. When the foundation of a house is week, it is sometimes worth pulling the house to rebuild it instead of patching it up. Whatever happens, it would one day fall apart if it is not well tended to. I think what ever is happening would rather serve to sanitise the House. God bless our Homeland Ghana.
Try anything silly against Ayariga and face several criminal proceedings in court. Why didn't you allow cross examination if you were a real court?
Ayariga must leave parliament PERIOD.
Speaker, please throw Ayariga, Okujato and Suhini out ONE TIME to save the image of Parliament.
Cantata Parliament, always disgracing the country, what have we done wrong as a country, is it because we give you gagantuan exgratia, fat salary etc. Or what really is our crime.
