The Member of Parliament for Wassa East, Hon. Agyei Mensah, has called on the government to set up new policies to regulate the operations of galamsey rather than taking strident measures to abolish it.
Hon. Agyei Mensah, who represents his constituents in parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress stated on ATV’s Asem Yi Di Ka show that for some time, illegal mining (galamsey) has been the source of income for most Ghanaian youth
“The government should employ good tutors who will train these miners and educate them on pollution of rivers in our societies. The politicians and chiefs who engage in this illegal activity must be taken on by the security services. We need political direction”, he said.
He added that “if galamsey is regulated, it will reduce the rate of unemployed in the country“,
