After suffering a humiliating defeat in his bid to secure the Abuakwa North seat for a second time in the 2016 elections, former Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, Victor Smith, has vowed never to contest that seat again.
“I’ll be very frank with you I’ll not stand elections there again. I have done twice,” announced the former High Commissioner in an interaction with Francis Abban on Morning Starr Wednesday.
Nonetheless, he said, he did not regret contesting the seat again and that his decision not to go again is not because he is embittered.
Ambassador Smith lost his bid for the seat for the second time to Gifty Twum-Ampofo, garnering 11,740 of valid votes to the latter’s 18,098.
Touching on the party’s general woeful performance in the elections, the defeated NDC parliamentary candidate stated that “weak leadership” cost the party the elections.
“Weak leadership could have cost us,” he remarked, stating “I believe that we had victory on our hands. It could not be just political leadership at the presidency.”
The NDC lost the 2016 elections miserably to then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), making John Mahama the first ever sitting president to have lost an election in the Fourth Republic.
Ambassador Smith described the NDC defeat as “a hurricane” which could have been easily averted if “Mahama had been timeously advised.”
“We lost it as a team to have anticipated if we had kept our ears on the ground… we would have anticipated a hurricane coming,” he added. “There were some mistakes that if we had tackled timeously, we (NDC) would have won the elections.”
He expressed optimism that NDC will bounce back come election 2020.
“In time, we (NDC) will tackle the little blunders and mistakes that cost us during the elections,” he opined.
According to him, former president Mahama is the best “gamble” for the NDC going into the next presidential election.
“If the NDC wants to win election 2020, it has to be John Mahama. We campaigned on John Mahama’s achievement and he will be the best to run in 2020,” he said.

Your are part of the reasons why ndc lost. both you and your brother did not bring any electoral votes to ndc this is a big disgrace. akyem ambassadors for nothing, no votes but open your mouth like crocodile and spew ***barred word***.
It serves you right. You so greedy that you were not satisfied with being an Ambassador and opted to be in parliament. I am not sure which one of the two is lucrative. You went to the extent of conniving with the constituency executives of NDC in Abuakwa North to kick out the legitimately nominated candidate for your party and forced yourself on the people. You knew there was no way you will win by that evil intention you had. You thought the NPP candidate which you arrogantly referred to as "a mere hairdresser" was an easy prey that you can defeat. Even the reference name you tagged against the NPP candidate was the "coup the grace". It is not that you are no more going to contest the seat any longer, YOU WILL NEVER EVER WIN that seat. You can contest 100 times and you will lose 100 time. It is good that you have disgracefully bowed out after coming back to your senses.
The truth is that Victor Smith can NEVER win the Abuakwa North seat even if you decide to contest again.... Your own people have rejected you. Go and enjoy your share of the NDC l00t.
He has been woefully rejected upon his so called achievements while is the President. How will the population will accept him while in opposition. Misappropriation of public funds here and there. Every day increase in TAX, TAX and TAXES. As at now some of the TAXES have been Removed and Some Reduced to help us. Public funds too are being checked in its spending. As compared to BRAZIL and SOUTH AFRICA, SUBA, SADA, GYEEDA, CP, ISOFOTON, WAYOME etc. Whenever he stands for President, we will campaign vigorously against him on the above crimes.
Who Cares!!!!!!!!
What ***barred word*** logic? You campaigned on his vision and were trounced by such an appalling margin across the board. What on earth makes you believe things will turn out differently by presenting him again? Remember the famous quote on ***barred word***: repeating the same mistakes over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Your logic is indeed the stuff of ***barred word***!
YOU WILL CONTINUE TO LOOSE UNTIL YOU DIE
Joker. It is easier said than done. You could not even manage to win the Abuakwa North seat. a you should be ashamed for yourself. You will even come near 40% with your so call John Mahama.
