The Minority in Parliament has urged the Akufo-Addo government to use the opportunity presented by the lynching of Captain Maxwell Mahama to urgently “put an end to the culture of impunity and lawlessness which is pervasive across the country.”
According to the Minority, “Ghana has been universally acclaimed as an oasis of peace, order and stability, and everything must be done to ensure that this enviable record bequeathed to the New Patriotic Party government is sustained.”
Captain Mahama was killed on Monday, 29 May while jogging in Diaso in Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region. He was mistaken for an armed robber.
In a statement signed by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, the group said the “gruesome” incident was “shocking” and “dismaying.”
“We condemn this act of barbarism in no uncertain terms, and, therefore, implore government as a matter of urgency to explore all legal and legitimate means to bring the perpetuators to book as soon as possible,” the Minority said.
The Minority MPs, however, urged restraint on the part of the Ghana Armed Forces as they investigate the matter.
“While commiserating with the military high command and officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces on this sad loss, we urge them to continue to exercise restraint as the matter is being dealt with.
“We also wish to express our sincere and heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, especially the wife and children,” the group said.

This is the Legacy of BAD GOVERNANCE. This is what Mahama left for Nana. Very Sad Ghanaians have changed so much.
This minority fulls must shuttt upp..... They were issuing galamsey licences without using their heads. They left this huge problem behind and now pretending..... A lot of them will be kicked from parliament in 2020 election.
Are the minority serious? They speak as if all of a sudden Ghana must be incedence free, after the mess and heap of problems they've created. What did they do about these things when they were in power? What they're doing will keep them in opposition for long, party of comedians!
are you saying this is the doing of the current government? i think the minority should get serious for once.
Are these minority guys serious? Yes, the government should do something about such acts of lawlessness, but did this start today? How many innocent people were lynched during their more than 30 years in power?
My heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family. ghana is becoming a den of lawlessness. six months of Akuffo Addo's governance has seen a lot of this lawlessness. please, Mr. President, act.
