Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Ms Otiko Djaba has admitted she did indeed take a selfie at the UN General Assembly a few weeks ago so as to “capture the moment” as President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered his maiden address to the UN in New York.
The selfie of Ms Otiko and Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Abu Jinapor who were at the UN General Assembly meeting with the president, went viral on social media.
Her critics described her conduct as inappropriate.
Justifying the selfie, however, Ms Djaba told Joy News that: “Yes, I did [take the selfie] to capture the moment.”
“Shwɛ, people saw me and they talked about it,” she boasted, adding: “I wanted to tell the world that our president was making a fantastic speech.”
“You remember when Obama came to Parliament, everybody was taking pictures to capture the moment; to show the world that: ‘We dey there some’. This was a unique moment of an African leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, telling world leaders that there is a new Africa moving us out of poverty, moving us out of aid,” Ms Djaba said.
Asked if she thought it was an appropriate thing to do at the time, she said: “It did.”

Taking a picture of yourself captures the president speaking? Lots of people need to go back to school.
president mahama stood in front of the cnn office to take a picture after the interview, he didnt do that during the interview, NPP and equalisation, thats all they know, competent indeed, tweaaa... 1d1iottz in power...
what a naive and childish thing for a minister to say.
I think she must be replaced by someone with more maturity
I remember how disgusted I felt when Mahama posed in front of CNN. A "whole" minister of state goes to the UN, your president is giving a speech and you are there taking selfies? The content of the speech has no relevance to you? Why don't you wait until he is done when the cameras are not focussed on the Ghanaian delegation so you can take the selfie? I am NPP but to be honest, Otiko is Nana Addo's worst appointment. So Nana couldn't find a competent, classy and knowledgeable NPP woman for such a sensitive position? Politics paa hmmm.
You are more fuulish than otiko. President mahama took photo standing in front of CNN, how is it equal to otiko disrespecting your weed smoking president.
kookoase kurasini
was she the one giving the speech? No. was she there?yes. was it right to do that?well....i dont know. If it were you would you have taken a selfie? I believe so. Will she do it again?..Unless she is dumb. Is she dumb?......answer yourself
If others can demonstrate during such occasions why cant she take selfie. Take my it my Gonja lady
