Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture has said it is needless and irrational for Ghanaians to believe the promise that all villages in the northern regions will have dams as promised prior to the 2016 campaigns.
Then-presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo promised barely four months to the 2016 polls, to establish one dam in every village in the northern part of the country to boost agriculture through a well-planned irrigation policy.
In the Upper East Region, Nana Addo said a robust irrigation policy “One Village One Dam” will make Ghana crop all year round and eventually become a net exporter of most foodstuff.
He noted that out of 14 million hectares of land only 30,000 of them is put to use.
He said an NPP government would provide functioning irrigation infrastructure through the One Village One Dam policy to create jobs and improve food security in Ghana.
Dr Afriyie Akoto in September said the implementation will start during the start of the 2017 dry season, which normally begins in November.
However, speaking to journalists in Tamale, the Deputy Minister Dr Sagre Bambangi said what government seeks to do is to make water accessible to farmers in various communities if residents desire to engage in dry season farming.
“Not all villages will have dams. We said one village, one dam because it was a campaign message. It is commonsensical to say that all villages will have dams. There are already some villages with dams so we will desilt them and those that cannot have access to water we will find ways of getting water to them”, he said.

I agree he should be fired IF HE DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TALK HOW DID HE BECOME AN MP AND MINISTER IN THE FIRST PLACE
This man must be FIRED. Simple, because he is a MOLE in NPP. Pure and simple.
bad statement from the minister..clearly disrespectful to the president. what at all is wrong with these agric ministers?
Mr Minister please in some situations silence is golden. Don't give NDC the ammunition for 2020. You'll make promises in 2020 and NDC could say, all your promises are for campaign purposes... Please keep quiet
Oh please! Brethren, let us give them some time. They have good intentions and plans for the masses. Let us give them some time. Mid way into their term will be fair to start judging them. I know their ideas, plans and policies are humongous compared to our mega resources. I don't blame them. They needed some kind of campaign strategy to win which they executed to perfection and won. They were smart or better still sneaky in their presentation. You blame the majority of ghanaians inability to evaluate politicians promises and draw conclusions as to whether it is realistic or not.Which government in the world can provide employment to all their citizens? Yet we heard politicians promising the youth exactly that. They believed it ! One dam one village ! they believed it. Blame the people, they never learn lessons through out the years. From Rawlings through Mahama and now Akofo Addo. Not to say NDC was better though.Same old same old.
The deputy minister said nothing wrong. Some villages already have dams no need for new ones only to desilt. The headline was just mischievous
common sense shd tell us that one village one dam does not NECESSARILY mean that every village will get a dam. Of course not every village NEEDS a dam, so why will u go and waste money to build something the ple doesnt need. U must be dumb as the ndc ple to make that conclusion. common sense shd tell u that every village that needs a dam will get one. Now the question you shd ask is what the govt means by NEED and stop making yourselves look ***barred word***. If you voted for NPP bcos u think they will build a dam in your village where u urself dont even go to farm then u can take back your vote. we voted throw out the incompetent ndc team. so lets relax and enjoy the new ride with the most competent team in our politics.
What is this boy doing accepting his nomination if he doesn't believe in the president who selected him to serve under his leadership? Please Mr. President just withdraw him.
This man should be fired
When it was said that NPP lied their way to gain the Power others we were playing politics . Campaign is different from Governance and it is having its telling effect on the government to be running away from the promises that brought them.to POWER. 2020 IS WAITING.
