The Minority in Parliament has warned the government to stay off Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama.
“They are professionals in their own fields doing their work so they should be allowed to do their work without interferences.
“Secondly, let us look at the cost to government. If these people are asked to resign they are entitled to be paid all that is due them for four years. They will be receiving all these benefits without working for it,” Deputy Minority Leader, James Klutse Avedzi said on Wednesday on Joy FM.
The Minority’s warning follows reports by state-owned Daily Graphic that the government has tipped Mrs Josephine Ankomah, who heads Ecobank in The Gambia, as replacement for Dr Johnson Asiama, who is reported by the same paper to be in negotiations with the government over his exit.
According to the paper, Dr Asiama’s fate is uncertain as his legal adviser says the government is pushing for his exit from the Central Bank.
According to the paper, Dr Asiama’s legal team is yet to begin discussions over a negotiated package for him.
Meanwhile, Governor of the central bank, Dr Ernest Addison, has, in response to media reports that his Second Deputy has resigned, said: “He [Dr Asiama] is on leave.”
Dr Addison made the comment to journalists at a Press Soiree in Accra on Tuesday, 12 December.
Dr Asiama, who is on a 10-day leave, denied media reports that he had resigned from the BoG.

Oh NDC you have lost it all. It was good when you chased the vice president out of the bank but this one is not right. What do you have at your sleeves this time. to leak information or what? NDC motto in opposition has always been ' if we did it and it was not right do you have to do it'. We heard this in the year 2001 but when they returned in 2009 they repeated chasing people out of their offices and seizing toilets and car parks.
NDC all our GHanaians so defend all including Georgina Amankwaa and Amadu Sulley.
Ghana where are we heading and why this impeachment of MR Asiama this is not fair Ghana should think of tomorrow and stop these things what has this man done wrong to deserve this and even the man from Gambia is he going to do a special and extraordinary work from what MR Asiama has been doing God have mercy. NANA ADDO is heading towards a wrong way and this wont make Ghanaians happy about his government he should rather concentrate on his promise, one district one dam.
These NDC MP's always gives empty threats, they should comport themselves.
Liars all over he is resign says de governor but de man himself says no he is on leave can u reconcile dis two statements npp is a party of people who don't think all wat they know how to do best is to harass you but all eyes are watching infact we live to see
Does ndc think they are in power and what authority do they have on this government? The majority must be up and doing and don't allow these people to dictate to you. Mr Speaker ,please parliament is not for Asofo we need people who can be as radical and rough on these nonentity minority who are annoying majority of us Ghanaians. I don't want to say Chairman Blay could have been better in that seat but I would have prefered him. These people are having too much field day who do they think they are? and who told them they can take President Akufo Addo on if even Rawlings in his hay days couldn't stop him from demonstrating Kumi Preko how much more you? Try any st*pid thing and the laws of Ghana will be applied to deal with your st*pidity.
Is it the same Ndc who hounded Dr.Bawumia out of BOG? Now they realize BOG is independent. Forking party Ndc.
Does NDC have "special' interest in him? Did they put him there for a purpose?
