The Minority in Parliament is demanding an apology from the Israeli Ambassador over his criticism of Ghana’s vote at the UN which rejected calls for Israel to move its capital to Jerusalem.
The vote became necessary after the US President Donald Trump threatened to move the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Ghana was among 128 countries that endorsed the position that Jerusalem is a disputed area between Israel and Palestine and can only become Israel’s capital after a peace deal is reached by the two countries.
Israeli Ambassador to Ghana Ami Mehl in a statement said his country regrets the mistaken vote of Ghana and expressed hope the mistake would not be repeated.
Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says the comment is an attack on Ghana’s sovereignty.
“Such utter disrespect and insult to the Ghanaian nation-state, you do not do that,” he said.
“That statement is very unfortunate,” he added.
“This attack on our sovereignty must stop. Nobody should be issuing threats to any other sovereign country,” he insisted.
The North Tongu MP said the Foreign Minister must quickly summon the Israeli Ambassador and demand an apology.
“To tell you the truth, many other countries would have expelled him by now. But at this stage, it will be good to give a hearing first and if he stands by and does not render an apology we can begin to take the next step,” he added.

INCOMPETENT NANA ADDO, EVEN WHEN OTHER COUNTRIES ARE THREATENING GHANA,U R QUIET.ALL U KNOW IS FAKE PROMISES.
HOW WAS THE VOTE A MISTAKE? WHAT WAS WRONG ABOUT THE VOTE? What the ambassador's statement reveals is that he thinks Ghana did not make an intelligent decision by the VOTE. The statement also means that Israel expects her enemies to be Ghana's enemies in order for Ghana and Israel to be friends. That is International Bullying. It is about time to speak our minds without fear or favor. Supremacist Behavior. Ghana must lead Africa in effectively using the Ballort Box to change the world. By the way, JESUS is preparing a NEW JERUSALEM for us all. This Jerusalem on Earth now is nothing compared to what JESUS IS preparing for HIS PEOPLE OF THE WORLD.
BABY TEETH PLEASE DON'T DARE ISRAELIS. JUST AS GHANA HAS THE RIGHT TO CAST ITS VOTE ANYHOW, ISRAEL HAS THE RIGHT TO EXPRESS DISPLEASURE OF THE VOTE CAST AGAINST THEIR INTEREST. IT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE A CHOICE AND A RIGHT TO CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THEM OR AGAINST THEM THAT THEY ALSO HAVE THE CHOICE AND RIGHT TO CRITICISE YOUR VOTE. JUST AS THEY COULD NOT STOP YOUR VOTE SO YOU CANNOT STOP THEM TO EXPRESS THEIR DISPLEASURE. ISRAEL IS CONCERNED ABOUT GHANA VOTE BECAUSE THEY CONSIDER GHANA AS THEIR FRIEND.UNFORTUNATELY GHANA VOTED AGAINST THEIR INTEREST. FOR THEM IT IS A BETRAYAL OF FRIENDSHIP. IT IS UCIVILISEDD FOR ANY BODY TO ATTACK ISRAEL IN THE MANNER THAT THE OPPOSITION HAS DONE TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY. IF NO ONE HAS ANYTHING SENSIBLEEE TO SAY, IT IS BETTER FOR THEM TO KEEP QUIET. AFTER ALL THE OPPOSITION IS NOT THE MOUTHPIECE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA. THE GOVERNANCE OF THE NATION IS NOW ENTRUSTED TO NPP GOVERNMENT. THE ROLE OF THE OPPOSITION IS TO KEEP TRACK OF GOVERNMENT BUSINESS AND NOT TO INTERFERE IN INTERNATIONAL MATTERS. THE RIGHT THING FOR NDC TO DO IS TO COMMEND GHANA GOVERNMENT FOR DECISION TAKEN ON BEHALF OF THE NATION IF THEY AGREE OR TO CRITICISE IT IF THEY DISAGREE. THEY HAS NO BUSINESS IN DEALING WITH INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS. THEIR ACTION IS A VIOLATION TO INTERNATIONAL PROTOCOL AND INSULTULT TO THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE PEOPLE OF GHANA WHO VOTED THEM OUT OF GOVERNMENT TO AVOID EMBARRASSING THE NATION WITH BABY TEETH STATEMENTS. WHAT IS IMPORANT NOW TO DO IS TO EXPRESS TO ISRAEL THAT THEY ARE STILL OUR FRIENDS THOUGH WE COULD NOT VOTE OTHERWISE. AND THAT THEIR ENEMIES ARE ALSO OUR FRIENDS AND THAK WE DESIRE TO SUPPORT AN APPROACH THAT WILL HELP TO BRING PEACE IN THE ENTIRE REGION. FOR US IN GHANA THE VOTE THOUGH MIGHT SEEM TO BE AGAINST THEIR INTEREST IS INTENDED TO ADVOCATE FOR PEACE OF THE ENTIRE REGION FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. IT IS BETTER THEREFORE FOR BABY TEETH AND HIS GROUP TO KEEP QUIET AND NOT TO INTERFERE DIRECTLY IN INTERNATIONAL MATTERS.
I personally agreed with the MP's comments, Ghana is a sovereign state our position is cleared in that matter even if UN should vote thousand times, our position musts't change.
Of course its an insult to call Ghana's vote a mistake, as if we don't know what we are about or we don't have our own national policies. Being strong and mighty does not always make u right. We have seen US make several mistakes in their foreign policy which they latter regret. What the 128 countries are simply saying is that, there is already a UN position on this matter of which US was part of, why then does Mr Trump wants to unilaterally make a new declaration on the matter. Let Trump do his worse,God willing in 3 years time a more sensible person will take over.
Mr Okujato! Ka wa no paado( ***barred word***). Aba!!! Always u want 2b heard. Why????? Are u de Spoke person for de Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Yebr3333 woooo toom.( we are tired of you.
I hope we shall not be going to the USA with cup in hand? Donald Trump has so far proven to be man of actions, not only verbal threats. He bites.
@Albert, you hit the nail right on it's head. ''where is the threat in his statement?''
***barred word***. The ambassador is entitled to his opinion even if I and overwhelming majority of the world are against Trump's declaration. Where is the threat in his statement? Silent is golden at times HONOURABLE.
