Former President Rawlings has congratulated Martin Amidu on his appointment as the country's foremost Special Prosecutor at the newly created office of the Independent Prosecutor.
Applauding President Akufo-Addo, who he said “couldn’t have made a better choice,” Flt Lt Rawlings was hopeful that Parliament would approve the appointment.
His comment follows President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of citizen vigilante, Mr Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.
Quoting the law that set up the office, Thursday, the President said he has accepted the choice of the Attorney General and will present to Parliament, the name of Mr Amidu for consideration.
At a brief ceremony to make the announcement at the Flagstaff House, President Akufo-Addo commended the public spiritedness of the man widely acclaimed as an anti-corruption crusader, a bulwark in the fight against corruption.
Reacting to the news former President Rawlings said “the president by this appointment has risen above partisanship and recognized a highly principled citizen.
“Mr. Amidu has proven to be a fearless anti-corruption crusader whose pursuit of truth and justice has won him national admiration," he added.
He called on all Ghanaians to offer the appointee the required support and information "in pursuit of what will undoubtedly be a challenging role.”
Flt Lt Rawlings also urged Ghanaians to pray for God’s guidance and strength for the former Attorney General as he works to restore the wheels of justice.

Nana has did well but it have left with the corruption
AMIDU CAN DO U NDC PEOPLE MAKE U SHUN UR SELF OO OK
If you have embezzled public funds then you have every right to be embittered by Martin Amidu's nomination. What is the business of a righteous person if thi eves are being hounded?
IF Amidu is that competent why didn't he prosecute corrupt public officials when he was the Attorney General? I wish i could advise him but you see when you are bitter and looking for vengeance you will end disgracing yourself and become a mockery. Mark My words Amidu will become a mockery one day in this country. This is a terrible trap for him and he is bound to fail. As for Nana Addo i feel very sorry for him because one day he will regret for making Jerry John his right hand Man. Rawlings will destroy him and his government with his evil bitterness.
First of all we give thank to our almighty God to gave his excellency Nana Akuffo Addo wisdom to choose Mr. Amidu as a special in Ghana. May God give him strength and wisdom in doing the work for Ghana.
The greatest move by Nana Addo so far. I commend him highly for this.
What is the big deal about Matin Amidu as the SP. Of cos somebody must be there and he is there. He is going to work within the confines of the law and not just sentencing persons he hates in ndc to jail. The choice was very obvious, embittered Amidu is like Opoku Afriyie former Asante kotoko goal scorer had problems with his team and there4 resigned from Kotoko. of cos the obvious team to join was the bitters rival of Asante kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak who readily welcome him to their camp. Martin Amidu was chosen to come and settle old scores with babies with sharp teeth. He is brought in to harrass NDC people. No wonder JJ Rawlings is existed. But if you are not corrupt you have nothing to fear. The Ifosoton judgement debts is settle pending. But what goes round comes around. Martin Amidu should be firm and objective and not use this as opportunity to attack his perceived enemies. All the best to him
@ me man nti if properly a good stateman you should have use your name, who are you calling ***barred word*** I dont exactly who you are but you keep on insulting. Please as the time goes on if you nothing important to say dont insult here you dont who always read your comment
