Son of Ghana’s first president, Sekou Nkrumah, is livid because President Nana Akufo-Addo has called Nelson Mandela the “greatest of all Africans”.
“Mandela is not greatest of all Africans, Nkrumah is! Shame on you Nana Addo,” Sekou wrote on Facebook in reaction to the president's tribute at the funeral of late South African jazz icon, Hugh Masekela Tuesday.
The president paid a glowing tribute to Masakela, with whom he partied and clubbed in many places around the world and recalled moments of great pleasure after the release of Nelson Mandela from prison.
“He was one of the most prominent of the South African exiles, who kept the struggle alive before the eyes and conscience of the world, and he did it largely through his wonderful music.
"Trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, his voice – he made beautiful music out of each of them. And when his idol, the iconic Nelson Mandela, greatest of all Africans, walked out of prison, his joy was without end. I came here to visit with him when he returned home, and that was my first experience of South Africa,” the president said of Hugh Masekela.
But a displeased Sekou took to social media to berate the president for hailing Nelson Mandela as the greatest African.
In his Facebook post, Sekou vented his spleen on President Akufo-Addo over the attempt to "obliterate a status earned by Nkrumah."
“Someone should go and tell Nana Addo that Kwame Nkrumah, not Mandela is the greatest African! Is he blind not to see Nkrumah's statue in front of the AU headquarters,” he said.

Aboakye take the dead lens from your eyes since it has outlived its usefulness. A statue in his honour doesn't make him the greatest but one of the great men of Africa. Nkrumah shared most of the money left by our colonial masters with some African countries with the aim to vote him into power when ever Africa united like the United States which annoyed some African states and like those in North Africa forming the Arab league to fight Nkrumah's imposition to lead Africa. He was a leading member of the formation of the O.A.U even though tough but wasn't the greatest. Mandela was down to earth man, he loved everyone and forgave his enemies something Nkrumah couldn't do. Nkrumah caged his opponents and took every opposing view as an enemy but Mandela treated even those who were his enemies good, he allowed the whites who caged and mistreated him even to stay and lived in peace with them whereas Nkrumah sent all the white people away, if you want to know Nkrumah watch Mugabe he is Nkrumaist and was mentored by Nkrumah, he ruled his people the way Ghana was ruled during that time and which necessitated the 1966 coup like Mugabe also tasted. Mugabe is exactly Nkrumah's duplicate, he hated the west and white people, loved Africa but mistreated his own people back home. Imprisoned anyone who opposed him in his country . Sekou, your father was a despot not the greatest. He loved power and was power drunk.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, that you a son of the so-called 'greatest African' Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, cannot tolerate the differing opinion of a fellow human is indeed a fitting testament to your father's 'greatness'. That you think, your father's statue being erected in front of a relative practically ***barred word*** institution like the AU, which institution your father was a founding member of, is indeed an amazing tribute to your father's 'greatness'. Hope you get over this very quickly 'cos I really do believe your father was perhaps the worse thing that happened to Ghana. My opinion, for which your father would have had me killed if I were his contemporary.
Not surprised, every child believes his dad is the strongest and richest in the world so Sekou can cry out loud if his soul pleases.
It is not by opinion that the statue of Kwame Nkrumah is located at the AU but rather a recognition of the fact that he is the greatest African of all time. We must simply call a spade a spade and not a big spoon.
Looking closely at the two sons of the continent, it is easy to conclude that Mandela was greater than Nkrumah. Nkruma never served any lone prison term and did not fight any war against the colonialists. He didn't unite a nation but rather divided the people. Nkrumah deceived his colleagues, which Mandela did not do. Mandela didn't use propaganda to project himself but Nkrumah did. Nkrumah's history from birth to the time he was brought back to Ghana is shroud in obscurity but Mandela's history is clear and straight forward. Mandela served for only one term as president but Nkrumah made himself life president. Mandela showed posterity to respect the National constitution but Nkrumah changed Ghana's constitution and made Ghana one party state. Mandela had a healthy relationship with his party members from beginning to end but Nkrumah broke up from those who brought him to Ghana to form his party and later starting arresting members of the new party he formed like Tawia Adamafio and Komla Agbeli Gbedema; could he be trusted? This list is non-exhaustive. Sekou can say what he likes, but he should know that Ghanaians know his father than he does.
Sekou should fight and become great too and stop fighting for greatness for his long dead father. They just take delight busking in the fake glory of Nkrumah while their party and everything is decaying. Nkrumah is NOT the greatest! PERIOD! How can a red-eyed dictator like him be the greatest? Apuuuutoooo!
I even think the greatest African who ever lived is Dr Kwegyir Aggrey. And that is my opinion.
Sekou. If someone is the greatest how do you understand that and who told you your father was the greatest? Mandela is known all over the world and loved by all, Mandela was loved by even his adversaries, while your father was even hated by some Africans because he was power drank. Mandela handed over the country back to his people after attaining independence for them but Nkrumah made himself the life president of Ghana and declared Ghana a one party state. Your father was a dictator and if he was the greatest his party would have been still in government but it's a struggling party in Ghana while Mandela's party is still reigning.Kids are still named after Mandela all over the world but not Nkrumah not even in Ghana so who is the greatest? The greatest has his name all over the world, Nkrumah was a great man but not the greatest.
Nana addo has become a ceremonial president,he ua just interested in reading tributes and speeches and just traveling unnecessarily.nana addo fix the economy and let jobs flow.ee are tired of the rhetorics
Sekou, everybody has an opinion, The greatest African, greatest whatever are all opinions. You may disagree, but Do respect the President's right to an opinion
