The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has constantly been on the neck of the ruling Akufo-Addo government, since the announcement and subsequent implementation of the Free SHS policy.
The opposition party has never stopped to make its views heard on the social intervention policy, even if the governing party considers the latter's comments mostly negative.
The Minority in Parliament, last year asserted that the policy will collapse in five years if the challenges plaguing it are not swiftly and dispassionately addressed.
Former Deputy Education Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, claims the challenges bedeviling the free SHS education are overwhelming and that it will cripple the schools soon.
On Saturday 24th February, 2018, Former President John Mahama also urged government to call for a stakeholders meeting to address challenges facing the Free SHS policy because it is stifling other developmental projects in the country.
According to him, “the problem this government is facing and it is in their own interest, is that, Free Senior High School is absorbing all the fiscal space they have and so almost every money you have, you are having to put it into Free Senior High School. So you can’t pay District Assemblies Common Fund, you can’t pay NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme), you can’t pay GETFund (Ghana Education Trust Fund), you can’t pay other salaries and things because all your money is going into Free Senior High School,”
However, the Minister of Education says if the opposition NDC feels the policy is so bad and cannot succeed, they should prevent their children from benefiting from it.
He has dared Okudzeto Ablakwa and other critics of the Free SHS policy to engage him in a debate; where he will prove that President Akufo-Addo's government is bent on making the Free SHS policy succeed.
The NDC, according to him, are just throwing tantrums and not speaking based on facts.
“I am throwing this challenge; I am prepared to debate 10 from NDC; Okudzeto (Ablakwa), Naana Opoku-Agyeman, (Ex-Prez) Mahama on Free SHS…they are just throwing dust in Ghanaians eyes,” Hon Matthew Prempeh stated.

Mr Minister, these mahama guys are not getting cheap househelps anymore. They see great literate population in a deacde or more to come. They are scared better intellects will be taking over and keeping them in the archives of Ghanaian history. Please use your precious time to focus on the youth who will soonb ev oting NPP again and again and again. Oman FM will handle them...it is the discerning Ghanaians who matter...not shysters!
Aden minister no wa tena bench so da naa. Cocoa krachi be3 nii
How much coins did this man donate to NPP in order to be hand picked as a minister of education? Curious. Is he useful for the education sector? Behaving worse than fiifi & co under Mahama Administration. What kind of cheap minister is this? With knowledge comes common sense & diplomacy.
NDC make comments which mostly, unprovokedly depict that they lack ideas, innovation and prudent transformational Leadership. You see, every Administration has a 4 year Mandate to deliver to the satisfaction of the electrorates in order to get it extended. Condering the enormity of Problems in terms of inadequate common needs of the People, this is too short a time. Therefore, you need a prudent Programm and composite guidelines to perform so as to get the polical space to realize a follow-up effect to accomplish your Vision.FHS is an indiscriminative social Intervention which cuts across to benefit every Ghanaian if it succeeds. The basic economic indicators take time to mature and in short terms are barely felt in the pockets of the People. So in your first four year Mandate the political will and inspirational Leadership is critical to stir-up the hopes of the People for your Vision. And mind you these strategic social interventions are optional and therefore you have to make it as a priority at the cost of other things ie Dubai interchange and conspicuous E-blocks or School feeding Programm and what have you.Asem s€ b€!
If they have the b~alls, they should do that.
Are you people not ashamed of your comments on elderly and respectful man like NAPO. If you are satanic, better move away bcos Ghana will succeed, Nana Addo will succeed, Napo will succeed and Free SHS will succeed. Its only a ***barred word*** who supports the negatives. Pull him down and chop chop is gone and gone for good. Wait more Abuga Pele's are coming and the world will know where Ghana is heading towards. God forgive all those wishing free SHS down or failure.
