Seasoned journalist Kweku Baako has jabbed Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings over his historic revolutionary days in the country.
Contributing to Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Kweku Baako described Mr. Rawlings and his cohorts that engaged in coup as "political armed robbers", explaining that they robbed their way into the hearts of Ghanaians.
According to Mr. Baako, the parties that played an integral role in the various coup d'états that characterized the nation resulting in the forceful overthrow of successive governments committed acts of treason and so do not deserve an inch of respect from him.
“The lack of discipline on the part of some Khaki elements led by Rawlings, the lack of discipline; constitutional discipline and indeed once I say Khaki, it means that I’m showing some gross disrespect to them. And I mean those guys who engaged in treason. They don’t deserve my respect…They decided from day 1 that they won’t let the constitution survive. And if out of your indiscipline and greed, you commit treason, you return to tell me because the fourth Republic is stable; we should give you credit. What about those who died? Those who went into exile? Those who went to jail? What should we do for them…it took blood, tears and sweat to restore democracy in Ghana”.
With their leader being Ex-President Rawlings, the seasoned journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that these political armed robbers instituted the indemnity clause in Ghana's constitution in order to provide legal protection against their crimes and exempt them from any future punishment.
To him, the indemnity clause must be reviewed because it helped the "unlicenced" political actors who engaged in the revolution to be left off the hook; he however doesn't see how best the clause can be removed from the constitution stressing it shouldn't have even been enshrined in the constitution in the first place.
“That’s why the political armed robbers when they’re exiting put in the indemnity clauses…When they’re exiting then they insert and they smuggled the indemnity clauses into the constitution to protect themselves…Coup makers are political armed robbers”, he fumed.

KWEKU, CAN WE FOCUS ON NATION BUILDING NOW? Kweku Baako is boring now. You see why it is not a good thing to allow old men to take center stage in our day to day affairs? They tell us dead stories. Kweku your ways are outmoded. Can we focus on nation building now? If you are bitter about Rawlings, keep it to yourself cos we've heard enough of your Rawlings stories. How does that improve our Living Conditions, GDP, Inflation Rate, or create jobs for us the youth, etc? Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, give us a break. We have moved on us a nation. Rawlings handed over power wisely and peacefully without plunging the nation into chaos and is sitting in his one corner. Let him be. You think what those guys like Samuel Doe, Mugabe, Mobutu, Eyadema and co did to cling on to power, Rawlings couldn't have done same? Granted that he would have been booted out in the end, it would have taken a war to do that and thousands of people would have lost their lives. But no matter how you look at it, he handed over power to a democratically elected government. Accord him some respect. In any case, you are a disgrace to the memory of your father, considering the fact that you are now in bed with the same party that 'robbed' power from your father's party (CPP). What is the CPP man doing with the Danquah, Busia party? ***barred word***, we have moved on so let Rawlings be. We want to focus on our future now.
@ Asem. if someone steals from you, and returns the booty to you, you think the person deserve any praise?
Kwaku your moda
Political armed robber
Mr. Rawlings are you hearing Kweku Baako? For your information this is how a lot of people in N.P.P. see you. we know they will use you Amidu and like and dump you like nobody's business, you just continue to play God
Seriously same of us hite this JJ and what he has turn to be.very selfish in all his utterance.look what you did and you have the right to call people names.
I don't know your problem with Rawlings. But at least he gave us democracy, base on that, we have seen one president coming after the other. Kwaku, it is time you see something good in R#AWLINGS OK. I don't think you haven't done anything wrong to anybody before. So please keep quite.
When will Kweku Baako stop playing GOD ? He has got skeletons in his chest. Only God knows the magnitude of them.Let him be assured that it will not be long before his PANDORA box is opened. The point is no one is sinless and faultless. We need to forgive and move on in the right direction.
I prefer a ***barred word*** to armed robbers. Mr. Yaw, I hope you did not benefit from these thugs who stole in broad daylight calling themselves as revolutionaries. Kweku Baako is a brave man
Hogwash!!! If civilian leaders go astray and take the country for a ride, we will SUPPORT any military take over to right the situation!! Call them whatever you want!!
