Acting General Secretary and National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has described as successful the regional elections held over the weekend.

According to him everything went on smoothly as planned and they are happy with the processes.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he prayed that the remaining four (4) would go on smoothly as planned.

He added they will be briefing the President about the elections tomorrow(Tuesday) at cabinet meeting and will know form there what do again.

Thousands of delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the weekend selected new regional officers to steer the affairs of the party in the next four years.

The positions which were up for grabs included; Chairman, 1st and 2nd Vice Chairman, Organiser, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Women’s Organizer, Youth Organiser, Treasurer and Nasara coordinator.

In the Greater Accra Region, Divine Otoo Agorhom beat his main contender, Alfred Boye to emerge as the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Agorhom pulled a total of 276 valid votes to defeat his nearest contender Mr Boye by seven votes, after the latter polled 269, in a very keenly contested race.

The polls, which were held at the Trade Fair Centre also saw a third aspirant, Archibald Cobbina earn 65 of the total valid votes cast.

Prior to the elections the Chairman of the Greater Accra NPP MPs, Titus Glover, declared Mr. Boye as the best candidate stating that all the MPs in the region were behind him.

In the Volta region, the immediate past regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Makafui Kofi Woanyah, has been elected the new Chairman in the Volta region.

He beat off stiff competition from three other aspirants having polled 296 out of the 497 votes to secured the position.

The election which was initially characterized by confusion was in defiance of a court injunction secured by an aggrieved disqualified chairman aspirant, Kofi Boateng.

A fourth aspirant, Lawyer Ken Anku in respect for the court order, however, withdrew from the race moments before the exercise began at the St. Francis College of Education in Hohoe on Saturday.

The elections which has so far been held in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Upper East Regions, were generally peaceful despite a couple of court injunctions by some disqualified aspirants.

The remaining regions are expected to hold their elections before April 24 except the Northern Region which has its elections rescheduled to April 28, 2018.
